Missoula Public Library’s new Downtown Flagship Library has achieved another first: it is the first US library to be honored with the IFLA Green Library Grand Scale Project Award. Given by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) and sponsored by De Gruyter Publishing, the award program recognizes libraries and library projects that best communicate their commitment to environmental sustainability. IFLA states, “The new building follows green principles and includes Indigenous art. GOOSEBUMPS!! Seriously . . . the new library space is absolutely stunning. You walk in and the beauty of this new space takes your breath away, and you get goosebumps! The 22,750 square feet of new space is such a testament to the special culture of Bentonville and what the community values - more meeting space for local businesses and community groups, a bike hub, expansive space for our children and teens to learn and explore in a safe place, and a huge veranda for all to gather - just to name a few of many new spaces and rooms and outdoor amenities! Thank you to MSR Design, Flintco, LLC, and all the associated engineers, trade partners, contractors, amazing library staff, and professionals' who are working on the expansion project. It has truly been an honor for Hadi Dudley, the Bentonville Public Library, and the Bentonville Library Foundation to bring this expansion project to fruition with the support of the Walton Family Foundation, RJW Logistics Group, Visit Bentonville, Steve Fineberg and Associates, Inc., Best In Class Suppliers, LLC, and Angela Oxford with the Walmart Foundation, and the SO very many other generous, thoughtful, and dedicated individual and business donors!
