关于我们
As a Certified B Corporation, we are dedicated to creating positive environmental and social change around the world. With a mission to ethically bring the wares of the world to our stores, empower the communities and cultures that create them, and share meaningful experiences with our customers. "I want to buy from, sell to and work with people who are smiling." — Pete Erskine, Co-Founder and Buyer The Mexicali Blues brand is an eclectic collection of unique and adventurous wares, ranging from clothing to decor, handcrafted sterling silver and gemstone jewelry to tie dyes and fashion accessories. We have something and then some for everyone who loves music, travel, or just cool stuff. A love of music and travel was what sparked the start of Mexicali. Taking the name from a Grateful Dead song, we opened our first store in Portland in 1988, and have steadily grown with the opening of three additional stores in Newcastle, Raymond, and Freeport, Maine. Each location offers a worldly experience that matches the opulent feel of street kiosks or bazaars in foreign lands, with sights, sounds, and smells you won't find anywhere else! We travel frequently, importing responsibly through creating and maintaining long-term and mutually beneficial relationships with the artisans and families who create our merchandise. We are proud to offer imported wares that our customers can feel good about in all possible ways! Mexicali Blues is your local Maine connection to the global marketplace, with an array of exotic items that have been responsibly imported and affordably priced. With funky bohemian goods from countries like India, Nepal, Thailand, Bali, Guatemala and Mexico, you can shop around the world without the price of a plane ticket!

Retail has always been a dynamic space, but the past 24 months have brought unprecedented change. At Mexicali Blues, we’ve evolved by writing our first mission statement, becoming a certified B Corporation, and launching a loyalty program—all while reflecting on our roots and reimagining how we connect with customers in meaningful ways. As a company, we’ve always prided ourselves on being more than just a retail store. Our small shops have served as portals to vibrant marketplaces around the world—places where every piece of merchandise carries a story, a connection to the artisans who created it, and the culture that inspired it. These roots have guided us through decades of growth, and now they’re helping us bridge the gap between the physical and virtual retail experience. This week, we’re excited to trial something new that’s deeply rooted in something old: the art of personal connection. Mexicali Blues is now offering virtual private jewelry shopping sessions with our amazing team. This isn’t about AI or the latest tech gadget; it’s about people. It’s about bringing our expert staff and their passion for our jewelry directly to you—wherever you are—through a screen. Why now? Because retail isn’t just about selling products. It’s about building relationships. It’s about listening to the stories and needs of our customers and finding the perfect one-of-a-kind piece that resonates. Whether it’s a hand-carved pendant, a sterling silver bracelet, or a gemstone ring, we want to bring the magic of our stores—that sense of escape, wonder, and connection—to you, no matter where you are. Behind the scenes, this initiative is inspired by our origins. When Mexicali Blues started, we focused on creating an environment where people felt a sense of adventure, curiosity, and personal connection. Those early days, filled with conversations about travels and the stories behind each item, are at the heart of what we’re trying to recapture now. Our hope is that by making these interactions more personal, more intimate, and more one-of-a-kind, we’ll not only offer a unique shopping experience but also deepen the relationships that are at the core of our success. Retail has changed, and so have consumers. But what hasn’t changed is the desire for connection—for moments that feel special, intentional, and personal. By blending the convenience of technology with the warmth of human interaction, we’re aiming to create a new kind of experience, one that’s as unique as the products we offer. This is just the beginning. If you’ve ever wished you could have a piece of Mexicali Blues magic sent directly to you—handpicked with your taste and style in mind—this is your chance. We’re excited to see where this journey takes us and look forward to hearing what you think. At Mexicali Blues, we’re not just bridging the gap between digital and physical retail; we’re making it deeply personal, one authentic connection at a time. https://lnkd.in/e8cXduVZ

At Mexicali Blues, we’re thrilled to work with incredible Maine businesses and beyond to bring our ideas to life. Recently, we added new fleet cars to our lineup, and the process has been nothing short of inspiring! Charlie's Family Of Dealerships set the tone by helping us find all-wheel-drive, eco-friendly, and economical vehicles that align with our values. Then came the magic from Adventure Advertising Inc, who partnered with our marketing team to transform our digital assets into jaw-dropping car wraps. The design? Based on a one-of-a-kind, handmade tie-dye created by a company we’ve proudly collaborated with for over a decade. Watching a single employee meticulously hand-apply these vibrant wraps over two days was truly remarkable. And the cherry on top? These vehicles proudly display our first public use of the B Corp logo, symbolizing our commitment to mindfulness, fun, and doing good. Seeing these cars in person is even cooler and more vibrant than anything we saw on a screen. It’s a true reflection of how collaboration can elevate creativity and community. Thank you to everyone who made this possible! Here’s to more partnerships that drive us forward. ???? #MindfulDevotionToFun #BCorp #Collaboration #SupportLocalBusinesses #TieDyeTradition

"Honored to share our team’s heartfelt day at Twin Villages Foodbank Farm, where community and purpose came together in the harvest."
A couple days ago, about 30 of us from the Mexicali Blues team came together at Twin Villages Foodbank Farm (founded in 2015 by Megan Taft and Sara Cawthon), harvesting over 2,400 pounds of carrots. This was more than just a day of giving back—it was a time to reflect on purpose and community. Megan Taft’s opening words set the tone, reminding us that bringing these perfect, organic vegetables to market is a humble effort to bring dignity—a reframing—for those experiencing hardship. As we worked, we were inspired by the incredible contributions these two women have made to Maine’s landscape and by the importance of nourishing all members of our community with respect. Food insecurity remains a reality for many, but yesterday, we embraced a vision where everyone’s humanity is valued equally. Grateful to have played a small part in this fall’s harvest and feeling proud of how our Volunteer Time Off program at Mexicali Blues is truly coming into its own. Keeping it classic with a news clipping instead of a link—small-town love at its finest! The Lincoln County News #VolunteerTime #CommunityImpact #LocalFarms #BCorp #MexicaliBlues

Happy to share some exciting outcomes of partnering with Mexicali Blues, a local family-owned, clothing company dedicated to sustainability. Mexicali Blues participated in our B Impact Clinic last fall and worked with a team of student consultants to complete the B Impact Assessment and help them work toward becoming B Corp Certified. They ethically source handmade clothes and accessories from around the world, building strong relationships with their vendors. Their mission is to empower these communities and share meaningful experiences with customers. These are just some of the things that the B Corp Assessment considers. This spring they also participated in our Climate Action Clinic where a student team collaborated with them to track their greenhouse gas emissions. Completing a full carbon analysis allows organizations like Mexicali Blues to set and achieve tangible goals for emission reduction. Through the Clinics, our students are gaining valuable skills and organizations are making a sustainable impact – a win for students, companies, communities, and the planet. Check out their story and the role a UNH alum is playing in it: https://lnkd.in/ekVPsyH7 A big thank you to our students and community partners for making this collaboration a success!
