Bob Hinkle spoke at a Nov. 16 COP29 press conference with business leaders on solutions to bridge the clean energy investment and deployment gap. (Webcast: https://lnkd.in/gbsh3G3t) Bob called on financing companies to do a better job of explaining the “right-now” business value of investing in sustainable energy projects. Structuring financial solutions to outcomes—like availability of cooling & heating or air quality levels—that matter most to customers and building owners is critical. Business planning needs climate planning and climate planning needs financing. Time to connect the dots. Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE), Alliance to Save Energy, America Is All In.

?? Further reflections from COP29 Azerbaijan The last few days have been incredibly insightful, filled with deep discussions on sustainable finance, energy investments, and the future of climate action. ?? Mobilising Climate Finance A series of finance-focused discussions highlighted the need for innovative financial structures to attract private capital, especially in the Global South. Sessions emphasised the role of climate funds in driving green growth, ensuring climate resilience, and aligning investments with sustainable development. ???? Rethinking Decision-Making in Sustainable Energy Investments Organised by the Business Council for Sustainable Energy and America Is All In, this session brought together leaders like Bob Hinkle (Metrus Energy), Hollies Winston (Mayor of the City of Brooklyn Park, MN), and?Kevin Rabinovitch?(Mars) to discuss aligning investments with sustainable energy goals. I was genuinely impressed by how America Is All In is leveraging cross-sector collaboration to accelerate meaningful climate action. ?? South-South Cooperation on Climate Change At a session co-hosted by The China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED)?and the BRI International Green Development Coalition, we explored how South-South Cooperation (SSC)—the exchange of resources, technology, and knowledge among countries of the Global South—can accelerate green development. The event was honoured by Leyla Aliyeva (Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Founder of IDEA Azerbaijan, and daughter of Azerbaijan's ruler Ilham Aliyev), who emphasised how developing nations can collaborate within the Belt and Road framework to drive sustainable growth and strengthen climate governance. ?? Accelerating Climate Finance In several panels, the focus was on creating cohesive ecosystems to scale up transition finance. Industry leaders, MDBs, and policymakers discussed strategies for decarbonisation across sectors. Notable was a session on leveraging Islamic finance in OIC countries to support sustainable economic transitions. The discussions also stressed the critical need for a just transition, ensuring investments promote inclusivity and equitable growth. From policy alignment to sustainable investment strategies, it's clear that collaboration across borders and sectors is key to driving the green transition. ?? #COP29 #SustainableFinance #GreenGrowth #SouthSouthCooperation #ClimateAction
