As MFS recognizes Indigenous People’s Day today, we are proud to have brought our staff together to experience a special presentation from Xochitl-Quetzal Aztec Dance, a group focused on preserving Mexico’s ancient culture through music, song, and dance in the tradition of the Concheros. Please enjoy this small highlight from their presentation, as we reflect on the history and culture of Indigenous American peoples.

Did you know Chicago has the third largest urban Native American population in the country? This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, MFS recognizes the histories, resilience, and unique traditions of Indigenous peoples, with the intent of fostering understanding and unity among diverse cultures. We acknowledge that we are on the lands of the Council of Three Fires -- the Ojibwa, Ottawa and Potawatomi -- and a dozen other Nations who once called, what we now know as Illinois, home.

Old National Bank came to visit the main DuPage headquarters for a two-shift volunteer event to clean and organize the storage closet. Before each shift, our Domestic Violence Senior Prevention Educator, Nicole Jordan, presented a Domestic Violence 101 class to share information about what DV looks like. Thank you Old National for joining us in this unique and impactful way to start an event!

Thank you to Representative Jesús "Chuy" Garcia for visiting Metropolitan Family Services #Midway Center! It was amazing to welcome him back to Midway Children Center and our Jones Center (workforce development center). We had the opportunity to reintroduce Rep. Garcia to our programs and share the impact we are making for Chicago's littlest learners - ensuring they are school-ready and enter with the skills and confidence needed to succeed. Our efforts also provide crucial support services to their families. We also had the chance to share our plans for expanding the Children's Center to ensure we can address community need. Special Thanks to Ric Estrada and the entire MFS team, including Dawn Delgado, Anne Larsen VanderWeele, and Alyssa Mendez for joining and making this happen!
