关于我们
The MetroHealth System is redefining health care by going beyond medical treatment to improve the foundations of community health and well-being: affordable housing, a cleaner environment, economic opportunity and access to fresh food, convenient transportation, legal help and other services. The system strives to become as good at preventing disease as it is at treating it. Founded in 1837, Cuyahoga County’s safety-net health system operates four hospitals, four emergency departments, more than 20 health centers and 40 additional sites.

We're forever thankful for the community we serve, which is why were proud to once again partner with the Greater Cleveland Food Bank for our annual turkey giveaway. Stress and a lack of health foods are among the factors that make people sick. By distributing a total of 1,750 turkeys at our Main Campus and Buckeye Health Center, we're helping our patients and community members start their holiday season on a happier – and healthier – note.

Excellence in the sky starts on the ground. Join us in congratulating Craig Bates, MD, who has been named Air Medical Physician Association Medical Director of the Year. Dr. Bates was recognized with the award at the Association of Air Medical Services' Air Medical Transport Conference in Salt Lake City. Dr. Bates served as Metro Life Flight's Medical Director from 2008 until 2023 and then took on the role of EMS Division Director for the Department of Emergency Medicine. In addition to his administrative role, Dr. Bates works shifts on the aircraft four times a month. This year marked 20 years of service year with Metro Life Flight. The Air Medical Physician Association established the award in 2000 to recognize a physician who has made outstanding contributions to his or her own program. Since its founding in 1982, Metro Life Flight has provided the highest level of critical care transport – in the air and on the ground – while implementing the highest safety standards in the industry. That's not just marketing speak, Dr. Bates said, but tangible investments in our capabilities: Life Flight is one of only a few flight programs in the nation that operate with two pilots, which provides additional safety benefits. It's also one of only a handful of flight programs with physicians and nurse practitioners on flight crews, which bring advanced care to patients when and where they need it most – whether that is on the side of a highway or in a rural hospital. Last year, Metro Life Flight transported 4,289 patients by helicopter and ground transportation.

An unfortunate truth is that as the weather gets colder, the more likely we will need to treat patients suffering from frostbite and hypothermia. Some of the most vulnerable to these dangerous conditions are the unsheltered, who oftentimes lack the appropriate resources to stay warm and safe. That's why we were proud to team up last week with the Sub Zero Mission for a clothing and winter gear donation drive at our Main Campus. Caregivers and members of the public were encouraged to "Stuff the Bus" with winter coats, hats, gloves, sleeping bags and new socks. Volunteers from Sub Zero Mission helped guide the effort, and will soon distribute the donated gear to those in need. Our thanks to the many caregivers that participated, as well as to the members of our Trauma and Burn Unit for organizing.

Thanks to their bravery and sacrifice, our veterans helped protect the freedoms we hold dear. And more than 200 of them continue to serve the community here at MetroHealth – as doctors, nurses, police officers, environmental service aides, volunteers, interns and in dozens of other roles. Join us in thanking them and veterans everywhere – today and every day.
