Metro Nashville Arts Commission or “Metro Arts” is the office of Arts & Culture for the city of Nashville and Davidson County. We believe that arts drive a more vibrant and equitable community. We strive to ensure that all Nashvillians have access to a creative life through community investments, artist and organizational training, public art and creative placemaking coordination and direct programs that involve residents in all forms of arts and culture. Metro Nashville Arts Commission was started in 1978 by Metro Charter.

  • ?? SAVE THE DATE: Thursday, September 12. ?? ?? Join Metro Arts on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 6:00 p.m. during the annual Nashville fair at Nashville Fairgrounds for the dedication of “Loqui”, the city’s newest large-scale sculpture by artist Blessing Hancock. ??“Loqui”, (to speak in latin) stands 32’ tall with an exterior of stainless-steel panels that depict the voices of Nashville. Hancock completed a series of community engagements while also enlisting local artist Miriam Speyer, to help capture the thoughts and emotions of Nashville’s community by prompting such questions as, “What makes Nashville your home?” and “What is your hope for the future?” This captivating artwork holds 415 phrases, 4,417 words and 22,020 characters that also illuminates in the evening, providing a striking nighttime presence. ?? Come celebrate with us on this momentous occasion! We hope to see you there! ?? Mention “Metro Arts” at the gate and get in the fair for $5. *Only valid between 5-7 p.m. ??   • Upcoming Metro Arts Meetings Join us for upcoming Metro Arts Commission and Committee Meetings this month. These meetings are open to the public. If possible, please try to arrive at least 10 minutes before the meeting starts. Once you arrive, please check-in with a Metro Arts staff member who will direct you to meeting materials and the public seating area.   • ? Lending Library Opening Reception Tonight ? We are excited to celebrate an expansion of the Lending Library Collection with an opening reception on July 18th from 5:30pm-8pm at the Mezzanine Gallery of Nashville Public Library’s Main Branch. Metro Arts has purchased 53 new works from local artists to distribute across five Nashville Public Library locations: Donelson, Green Hills, Old Hickory, Hermitage, and East. Library patrons will be able to view the entire collection at the Main Library Mezzanine Gallery from July 11 until August 16. The works will then be distributed to the new branches and available to check out with a library card.   • Public Art Celebration! Join us for a family-friendly celebration of mural artist Elisheba Israel Mrozik’s installation at Kossie Gardner Sr. Park, Elements of Art Out Norf. The work is a 71 ft long and 9 ft tall depiction of North Nashville’s history, diverse community, unity and prosperity. We are looking forward to celebrating Elisheba and this artwork on July 27th at 4:30pm at Kossie Gardner Sr. Park. We’ll have pizza, ice cream, music, free art supplies, and fun for the whole family!

  • Coffee/Talk - July Edition The July 2024 Coffee Talk with Metro Arts will be Wednesday, July 10, from 9:30am-11am. It will take place at Visual Arts, Inc. located at 100 Taylor Street, Unit A3. There will be a pop-up/mobile coffee shop provided by the local company Roast & Brews. The owner of Roast & Brews, Juan Matias, is also a local photographer who will be on site to speak about his work. The director of Visual Arts, Inc., Joshua Snodgrass, will be on site to speak about his gallery and the creative community at 100 Taylor Street.
