Today, our Thrive students had the incredible opportunity to visit Metro Transit Public Safety St. Louis Bi-State Development and meet with Melissa Webb, their Director of Security, Media, and Customer Engagement. Melissa shared her expertise on how public transportation plays a crucial role in building strong, connected communities and fostering economic development. During the visit, we got a behind-the-scenes look at Metro’s closed-circuit video system and learned about the significant security updates that have been implemented on platforms and MetroLink trains to ensure rider safety. Riding the MetroLink from Grand to the Illinois side, we saw firsthand how these improvements are making a difference. Public transportation isn’t just about getting from point A to point B—it’s a lifeline for businesses and communities. It connects people to jobs, schools, and opportunities, drives local economies, and reduces traffic and environmental impacts. Metro St. Louis Bi-State Development embodies more than transportation; it’s about development—creating a stronger, more accessible region for everyone. Last Saturday, November 9, our dedicated Metro Transit Program team was honored with the 2024 Community Innovation Award from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) St. Louis at the Roots of Resistance Gala. Our Metro Transit Program places compassionate behavioral health providers on MetroLink vehicles and at transfer stations identified as having the greatest need.
