Partnering with communities to create and foster resilient landscapes.

关于我们

Metro Blooms is an environmental non-profit based in the Twin Cities of Minnesota. We are built on values of community partnership and resilience. We partner with communities to create resilient landscapes and foster clean watersheds, embracing the values of equity and inclusion to solve environmental challenges. We partner with communities, local governments, private nurseries and landscapers and volunteer groups to share information and provide resources, technical and physical assistance to create more resilient landscapes and resilient communities, protecting our water resources, creating habitat for wildlife and strengthening social connection through equitable engagement. Over the past 15 years, 10,000 people have attended a resilient landscape workshop and more than 1,000 raingardens have been installed in partnership with Twin Cities communities. Thirty project stewards have engaged their neighbors within affordable housing and environmental justice communities to create healthier, more livable outdoor spaces. These statistics point to the progress we are making in protecting clean water in our cherished lakes, rivers and streams and in promoting the equitable use of clean water and habitat funding. We aren't doing this alone. We work hand-in-hand with our partners to help them meet their goals and rely on many volunteers to help plant and share knowledge with residents. We hope you join us in helping to create more resilient landscapes and resilient communities.

Our Metro Blooms Design+Build landcare crew maintains commercial sites! ???? This is a site Metro Blooms Design+Build designed and installed in 2018, which we now maintain. Our team worked with the creative challenge of tucking in as much pollinator habitat as we could in this small space in northeast Minneapolis. ?? We incorporated a rain garden that captures runoff from the roof building, prioritizing native plants for pollinator support. The site also includes permeable pavement to capture additional runoff! ?? Interested in Metro Blooms Design+Build’s landcare services for commercial and other large sites? We currently have space in our 2025 schedule for new maintenance clients. Contact us via our landcare page for more information: https://lnkd.in/gqv5edD6 #SustainableLandcare #Landcare #GreenInfrastructure #StormwaterInfrastructure

  • Over the past two years, you may have heard about our Turf to Pollinator Gardens Project with Wilderness in the City, where we planted six native plant pollinator gardens in Twin Cities regional parks. ???? We completed the projects in 2024, adding up to 50,000 square feet of new pollinator habitat. Across 37 planting events, more than 550 amazing volunteers and partners invested their time to help us plant and care for the gardens! ?? Our newly updated project webpage shares stories about the six gardens, including the planting designs! Take a peek at https://lnkd.in/gcvXZ5vN #TurfToPollinatorGardens #PlantForPollinators

  • Where does water flow on your property? ?? Before working with Metro Blooms Design+Build, this client’s downspouts carried stormwater that flowed right down their front yard and onto the sidewalk, causing erosion issues and carrying pollutants into the nearest storm drain. We helped this client replace their front lawn with a rain garden that filters stormwater, reduces slope erosion, and brings lots of curb appeal to the property! ?????We also incorporated stepping stones as well as a boulder outcropping on the hillside above the sidewalk. ?? Want guidance for making your own yard more water and wildlife-friendly? Schedule a virtual consultation with our Design+Build team this winter: https://lnkd.in/gVzy9g_r Pictured: the before, during, and after! #PlantForCleanWater #PlantForPollinators #SustainableLandscaping #MinneapolisDesignBuild

Thank you for planting, learning, resisting, and connecting alongside us. • Metro Blooms’ work towards environmental and social justice will not diminish. Right now, we are struggling to make sense of policies and actions that threaten to pull us apart, create chaos and fear, degrade our land and waters, and demean our neighbors. But we are not powerless, especially when we come together in community. We choose to continue doing the work we do, staying loud, clear, and true to our values: prioritizing our work with those impacted by environmental racism and injustice, creating welcoming spaces for?everyone?to participate and contribute, and paying and valuing everyone's time. We believe everyone — regardless of race, educational background, residency status, gender — has a right to clean air, land and water. There are many local organizations that can help you learn, speak up, and support others during this time — we encourage you to connect with them. Here are just a few: COPAL MN, Centro De Trabajadores Unidos En La Lucha (CTUL), HOME Line MN, Honor the Earth, Midwest Environmental Justice Network, OutFront Minnesota Thank you for being with us in this work. ?? #InThisTogether #EnvironmentalJustice #SustainableLandscaping #CommunityGreenSpace #NativePlants #PlantForCleanWater

  • ???CALL FOR SUPPORT - Lawns to Legumes Funding at Risk ?? The Lawns to Legumes program—helping thousands in Minnesota create vital pollinator habitat—is at risk! Continued funding is not included in the current governor’s budget and a proposed bill (S.F. No. 1211) seeks to repeal funding, putting pollinators like the rusty patched bumble bee and monarch butterfly in jeopardy. ???Why Lawns to Legumes Matters: ? 12,000+ Minnesotans have planted 14 million sq. ft. of pollinator habitat. ? Biodiversity in crisis — Pollinator populations are declining worldwide. Minnesota is home to 500+ native bee species that depend on these habitats. ? Demand is HUGE —Thousands of people apply every grant round beyond what the program can fund. ? Without funding, this progress stops. ?? Take Action NOW! Contact your state legislators and urge them to oppose S.F. No. 1211 & support continued funding! ?? Minnesota leads in pollinator conservation—let’s keep it that way! ???You can view and share the full action letter here: https://lnkd.in/gDccHa4z #SaveLawnsToLegumes #ProtectPollinators #ActNow
