Partnering with communities to create and foster resilient landscapes.

关于我们

Metro Blooms is an environmental non-profit based in the Twin Cities of Minnesota. We are built on values of community partnership and resilience. We partner with communities to create resilient landscapes and foster clean watersheds, embracing the values of equity and inclusion to solve environmental challenges. We partner with communities, local governments, private nurseries and landscapers and volunteer groups to share information and provide resources, technical and physical assistance to create more resilient landscapes and resilient communities, protecting our water resources, creating habitat for wildlife and strengthening social connection through equitable engagement. Over the past 15 years, 10,000 people have attended a resilient landscape workshop and more than 1,000 raingardens have been installed in partnership with Twin Cities communities. Thirty project stewards have engaged their neighbors within affordable housing and environmental justice communities to create healthier, more livable outdoor spaces. These statistics point to the progress we are making in protecting clean water in our cherished lakes, rivers and streams and in promoting the equitable use of clean water and habitat funding. We aren't doing this alone. We work hand-in-hand with our partners to help them meet their goals and rely on many volunteers to help plant and share knowledge with residents. We hope you join us in helping to create more resilient landscapes and resilient communities.

Temperatures are rising, but it’s not time to start yard work just yet! ?? ???Protect overwintering pollinators — hold back on raking leaves or cleaning up so that pollinators have a chance to emerge from their nesting habitat. ???Wait until soil temperatures rise to 50 degrees. A good approximation of that time is when you dandelions start flowering. At that point you can start your projects. #SustainableLandscaping #PlantForPollinators #MinnesotaGardening Pictured: Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis), Rich Harrison

Looking for a simple way to save water and nourish your garden? A rain barrel is an easy, budget-friendly solution! ????? Not only do rain barrels help conserve water, but they also reduce runoff, keeping excess water from overwhelming storm drains. A couple of quick tips for the season: ?? Direct overflow from your rain barrel wisely – Channel extra water away from your house and into a rain garden or another spot where it can naturally soak into the soil. ?? Keep it clear – As we get into the rainy season, check your rain barrel’s inlet regularly to prevent debris from clogging it. Thanks to the Recycling Association of Minnesota, you can snag a low-cost rain barrel this spring! Pre-orders are now open: https://lnkd.in/dxRGsEbg #RainBarrel #StormwaterManagement #SustainableLandscaping Photos: Some of our team members installing a rain barrel at Green Garden Bakery Minneapolis' garden last spring!

  • Little Earth and Metro Blooms partnered this winter to learn black ash basket weaving from Liandra Skenandore! Liandra is an enrolled tribal citizen of the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin and descends from the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, Muscogee Creek Nation, and Seminole Nation of Oklahoma. We spent two beautiful weekends together with lots of community, good food, and learning. We are so grateful to Liandra, Little Earth staff and neighbors, and all who attended! ?? These programs were funded by the City of Minneapolis Tree Department. Pictured: Our team working on their baskets!

  • Our Metro Blooms Design+Build landcare crew maintains commercial sites! ???? This is a site Metro Blooms Design+Build designed and installed in 2018, which we now maintain. Our team worked with the creative challenge of tucking in as much pollinator habitat as we could in this small space in northeast Minneapolis. ?? We incorporated a rain garden that captures runoff from the roof building, prioritizing native plants for pollinator support. The site also includes permeable pavement to capture additional runoff! ?? Interested in Metro Blooms Design+Build’s landcare services for commercial and other large sites? We currently have space in our 2025 schedule for new maintenance clients. Contact us via our landcare page for more information: https://lnkd.in/gqv5edD6 #SustainableLandcare #Landcare #GreenInfrastructure #StormwaterInfrastructure
