Metra is more than just a rail system. We are a team of professionals who help connect our community members to the people and places that matter most. We serve the residents, visitors and businesses of Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, Kane and McHenry counties in northeastern Illinois, with a system that spans more than 500 route miles, 11 rail lines and 243 stations. Our service relies upon the expertise, dedication and teamwork of every individual at Metra. We all contribute to Metra’s success, no matter the role. Our mission is to provide on-time, reliable rail service that meets our passengers’ expectations, all at an affordable rate. Our most important resource is a committed and diverse team that brings together a wealth of knowledge, skill and experience. My Metra is for all of us.

Our Veterans Locomotive is the latest heritage unit in our fleet, honoring our nation's veterans and active service members and reservists. Watch as Senior Graphic Designer Falecia Woods describes the process to design it, including composing the various elements of our service branches, selecting harmonious color schemes and preserving federal regulations for locomotive paint. Ms. Woods sought not only to honor veterans at Metra but also her own family members who honorably served. We thank Ms. Woods for her amazing work creating this heritage locomotive saluting our nation's veterans.

Metra proudly employs veterans across our agency, which both strengthens the transportation service we provide and supports our mission of providing a life-long career for those who have honorably served our country. Last week, we unveiled a new heritage locomotive honoring veterans and active-duty service members and reservists during a Veterans Luncheon honoring the more than 300 veterans and reservists working at Metra. The locomotive was designed and painted in-house. It was revealed on the heels of Metra signing on to the U.S. Army's Partnership for Your Success (PaYS) Program and Metra receiving a 2024 HIRE Vets Medallion Award for its commitment to hiring, training, and retaining veterans.
