Did you know: ?? only 1 in 4 caregivers report good physical health ?? 1 in 5 rate themselves highly at eating healthy and exercising ?? And only 1 in 3 say they keep up with annual physicals and routine doctor appointments? The numbers state the obvious… caregivers need care too. If you’re a caregiver, it might feel awkward to ask for or accept help. Here are some tips on how to get started: ?? Send a text or email if you’re uncomfortable asking face to face ??Give them a list of things that could help, and let them choose ?? Be forthright about what you need and what you don’t need; not every offer is helpful in the moment And lastly, but most importantly: When a friend or family member offers help, practice saying “yes”! Just remember: You are not a failure. And you are not a burden. Your loved ones want to be there for you; let them. ?? Have you heard of the “Red Power” movement? It was a social movement which was led by Native American youth who demanded self-determination for Native Americans in the United States. Clyde Warrior, co-founder of the National Indian Youth Council (NIYC), with his advocacy for Indigenous rights and cultural pride, marked a significant era of activism, including direct actions like fish-ins and contributions to the Red Power movement. Since then, the Native Professional Advancement Center, operating alongside the National Indian Youth Council (NIYC), has been working toward the empowerment and advancement of Native Americans across the United States. Some of their key accomplishments include: ?? Education ?? NPAC has helped over 4,000 students access education. They also offer a Classroom Training initiative that provides allowances for college, vocational, or GED programs. ?? Supportive services ?? NPAC offers a range of supportive services, including educational testing accommodations, help with the cost of textbooks or certification fees, and assistance with job or class essentials. ?? Workforce development ?? NPAC's Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program provides educational stipends and professional training to over 300 participants annually. You’ve been outmaneuvered. The other players are accumulating more wealth, strategically buying, developing, and collecting rent from properties, and you’re being forced into bankruptcy. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. But what if there’d been a “Legal Plan” card? An attorney provided by a legal plan can help you with buying and renting (both logistically and with any disputes that may arise). It also covers personal bankruptcy, including pre-bankruptcy planning, filing a petition, and representing you in court. Maybe not as helpful as the “Get out of jail free” card but still… pretty handy! #nationalmonopolyday #legalplan #legalaccess #voluntarybenefit #memberbenefit

It was 1970 and Native American attorney John Echohawk saw a need: an organization that would help ensure the U.S. government stays true to its legal obligations to Native Americans. So, Echohawk founded the Native American Rights Fund (NARF) to protect Native American rights and make certain the government upheld its promises. NARF’s key accomplishments include: ?? Preserving tribal recognition and sovereignty ?? Safeguarding hunting and fishing rights on tribes’ lands ?? Upholding religious freedom ?? Protecting voting rights ?? Developing tribal education ?? There are a whole lotta acronyms in the world of caregiving. ADLs, CCRCs, and HHAs… what does it all mean? ???? In today’s installation of #LegalLingo, we’ll be highlighting a few of the acronyms you might come across if you’re caring for a loved one, including: ADL or Activities of Daily Living: These are the actions a person must do by themselves to engage independently in everyday life, like bathing, dressing, eating, and being mobile. CCRC or Continuing Care Retirement Community: Housing that offers a variety of living options and services, including independent living, assisted living and skilled care, often all on the same campus. HHA or Family Medical Leave Act: A trained and certified health care worker who assists a patient in the home. And we know these barely skim the surface! Check out this robust caregiver glossary by AARP with a list of common caregiving terms and acronyms you may encounter: https://lnkd.in/e2KQVN2 We hope this resource helps you on your caregiving journey! #nationalfamilycaregiversmonth #caregivers #caregivng #legallingo #legalplan #legalaccess #voluntarybenefit #memberbenefit

In the summer of 1968, Native American activists gathered hundreds of like-minded individuals. Their goal? Getting the United States to recognize Native American sovereignty and the protection of Native Americans and their rights. They formed the American Indian Movement (AIM). Their key achievements include: ?? Bringing national attention to Native American issues: AIM brought the plight of Native Americans to the forefront of public discourse. ?? Advocating for treaty rights: AIM actively campaigned against the US government's failure to uphold treaty obligations with Native American tribes. ?? Promoting self-determination: Pushed for greater Native American control over their lands and affairs, advocating for self-governance. ?? Influencing legislation: Contributed to the passage of legislation like the Indian Child Welfare Act, protecting Native American children's cultural heritage.
