We believe that continuous growth—both personally and professionally—drives progress. Carrie Biemer, CFA, Senior Director, Public Fixed Income, shared her perspective: "Accelerating means growing, both personally and professionally. That doesn’t always mean moving up but expanding out and challenging yourself to take on more and learn new things. This prevents complacency." #IWD2025

The U.S. trade deficit skyrocketed in January as firms try to buy foreign goods before higher tariffs take effect. The $33.5 billion increase in the goods deficit was driven by the purchase of industrial supplies (which increased even excluding gold imports), capital goods, and consumer goods. More negative net exports is among the factors leading to a potential rough start for 2025 GDP. March is likely to see strong imports continue. President Trump paused Mexico and Canada tariffs until April 2, and tariffs on goods including pharmaceuticals, agricultural commodities, and semiconductors are also likely to be applied then. But a spike in imports in Q1 could be offset by lower-than-normal imports over the next three quarters, resulting in a smaller drag on GDP over the whole year. Shan A.
