Stonewalling, also known as the silent treatment, may seem like a relatively harmless punishment. It's not. It's an effort to manipulate, control, and abuse a close other. Here's why.
ADHD is often misunderstood because people only see the surface—fidgeting, hyperactivity, or forgetfulness. But ADHD, like other forms of neurodivergence —it’s simply a different way the brain functions. Beneath the surface, many individuals experience challenges with executive functioning, emotional regulation, working memory, and rejection sensitivity. At the same time, they bring incredible strengths like creativity, problem-solving, and the ability to hyperfocus on their passions. It’s time to shift the narrative. Neurodivergence isn’t something to be "fixed"—it’s a natural variation in how brains work. Instead of forcing individuals to fit into systems that weren’t designed for them, we should redesign our workplaces, schools, and communities to embrace cognitive diversity.
