?? Big news from our member A.P. Moller - Maersk today with the naming of A.P. M?ller—their newest dual-fuel vessel capable of running on methanol. ?? ?? Launched in Singapore, this is the ninth methanol-powered ship in their fleet, showing their commitment in driving the transition to cleaner shipping. The ISO - International Organization for Standardization released a new global standard for using #methanol ?? as a marine fuel - ISO 6583:2024. This is a huge leap forward for greener, cleaner shipping. ? The standard was developed collectively with input ?? from shipowners, operators, engine designers, methanol producers, and many other stakeholders. We’re proud that the Methanol Institute had a seat at the table, with our Senior Advisor, kjeld Aabo, helping to shape the process. ? The new standard lays out clear specifications for 3?? methanol grades—Marine Methanol Grade A, B, and C—and sets guidelines to ensure methanol can be safely and reliably used in marine engines, fuel cells, and other ship systems. ? This is a big deal for the shipping industry as it works toward cutting emissions and adopting more #SustainableFuels. Congratulations to MI member GEELY who on Wednesday held a launch ceremony for their methanol-hydrogen-electric hybrid vehicles, the first batch of official designated vehicles for the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin. As the official partner of this Asian Winter Games, Geely Holding Group has created multiple power solutions such as methanol, pure electric, and intelligent electric hybrid to provide safe and low-carbon travel guarantees for the event. Among them, 350 fourth-generation Emgrand methanol-hydrogen-electric hybrid vehicles will provide safe and low-carbon alcohol-clean travel for this Asian Winter Games. This is also the first time that methanol vehicles have served international sports events on a large scale. To date, Geely has developed more than 20 methanol-powered products and has operated 35,000 methanol vehicles on a large scale. On Wednesday, the World Resources Institute (WRI), the China Research Academy of Environmental Sciences (CRAES), and Dalian University paid a visit to the Methanol Institute's Beijing office for a lively workshop on methanol as a marine fuel. Kai Zhao 赵凯, MI's China Chief Representative delivered a presentation on methanol's attributes as a marine fuel.
