It focuses on comfort rather than curative treatments, but patients still receive care that manages symptoms and improves quality of life. November is Native American Heritage Month – a time to honor the rich ancestry and traditions of Native Americans. Most people know very little about Native American history and culture, but together, we can change that. Think deeply throughout the month about how to challenge and address settler colonialism, the process that has left much of U.S. society with little understanding of the people who have lived on this land for over 20,000 years. Start by learning about the ancestral lands where you live and work. Engage with Native communities with respect, reciprocity, responsibility, and a commitment to building relationships. Understanding the culture, history, and sovereignty of Native nations takes time, and making long-term and meaningful connections is essential.
