    Today’s e-commerce platforms are charging merchants increasingly higher fees.?? However, advertising costs, a major contributor to these rising expenses, are becoming less effective??.How should merchants deal with this and secure sales? ??Wake up and Retain OLD CUSTOMERS???! According to Marketplace Pulse, Amazon sellers have been paying an increasingly higher percentage of their sales to the platform for six consecutive years starting from 2016??. For the first time, this percentage will exceed 50% by 2022.(P1) The fees that most Amazon sellers currently pay to the platform are broadly divided into three categories: 15% transaction fees, 20-35% logistics fees (including warehousing and other fees), and 15% advertising and promotional fees??.(P2) Looking at the overall trend, Amazon's transaction fees have remained largely unchanged in recent years and can be as low as 8 per cent in some categories to attract new sellers??. At the same time, however, Amazon's logistics and advertising costs have skyrocketed. In the era of 'Popularity is King,' many Amazon sellers heavily invest in advertising to achieve higher rankings. However, Amazon's on-site traffic is becoming more expensive, and despite increased spending, the results are not as effective as before??. This squeezes the seller's profit margin. Many sellers are now reducing their Amazon advertising costs. As a result, Amazon's advertising revenue growth in the 2022 holiday quarter decreased by 13.3% compared to the previous year, indicating a significant slowdown??. Therefore, what is more important for merchants is not to invest a lot more money in advertising to acquire new customers, but to use some means to wake up and retain old customers and increase their repurchase rate and loyalty??.
