Supply Chain Manager at Metalwerks, Inc | MBA Candidate IU Kelley School of Business

This week I had the opportunity to attend ASTM International's committee week in Orlando, FL and participate in the Emerging Professional's Program. ASTM International, originally known as the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), was founded in 1898 by a group of engineers and scientists in the United States. The organization was created in response to the widespread issue of rail failures and the need for standardized testing methods for materials used in the construction of railroads. The goal was to develop uniform testing procedures and standards to ensure the quality and safety of materials, thereby reducing the risk of accidents and improving public safety. The first meeting of ASTM took place in a small room in Philadelphia, and the organization quickly grew in influence and scope, expanding beyond just railroad materials to cover a wide range of industries, including construction, manufacturing, and energy. By the 1920s, ASTM began publishing standards that were widely adopted across the United States and internationally. In 2001, the organization officially changed its name to ASTM International to reflect its global reach and the fact that its standards were being used by industries worldwide. Today, ASTM International is one of the largest and most respected standards development organizations, with over 30,000 standards in place, used in industries ranging from materials science to environmental protection, healthcare, and many others. ASTM continues to play a critical role in developing and promoting standards that ensure quality, safety, and innovation in products and services worldwide. I personally wanted to thank Nate Eisinger from Perryman Company for his nomination for the Emerging Professionals Program, Nora Nimmerichter from ASTM International for her training on ASTM's organization, resources, and processes, and Ankur T. Ponda, MBA from McKinley Advisors for his training on leadership. Pictured receiving recognition of completion of the Emerging Professional Program from Andy Kireta, President of ASTM International.

Peter Kozlowski spent the day at the EPHJ conference in Geneva Switzerland with Metalwerk's partner Thyssenkrupp Materials Schweiz AG. He learned a lot about the watch making industry and enjoyed the hospitality of ThyssenKrupp and all the other vendors. He is going to be back at the show today so let him know if you want to discuss any niche material needs for watchmaking applications.
