Check this out!! A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of judging the Cozad New Venture Challenge at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign -- one of the oldest and most prestigious student start-up competitions in the country. This year over 400 students and over 160 teams entered the competition and over 130 of them made it through to the final demo day where they showcased their ventures to the community and pitched their ideas to panels of judges. Ultimately, funding and prizes valued at nearly $500,000 were awarded to participants. One of the teams, Meta Frazo has developed an AI enabled media translator. In speaking with one of its founders, Shrikar Lekkala, I learned a few things that make this solution unique: ? It has solved for the issue of "time blocking" when syncing audio and video. Since language is conveyed at different speeds and in different sentence structures, their technology matches the translated audio to match the duration of the associated video or other time allotment. ? Synchronizing lips and expressions. Nothing is more annoying (or obvious) than a bad dubbing -- where the audio doesn't match the associated video of the speaker. Through AI, they are able to alter the associated video so the speakers mouth and expressions match the translated output. ? In addition to translating audio in 60+ languages, Meta Frazo also automatically overlays translated text onto visual presentation materials. Right now they are targeting the education market.
