What is the impact of GHG Protocol's latest Scope 3 guidance on the Insurance Industry? ???? I got an email from GHG Protocol today with FAQs on Scope boundaries which are highly relevant to the #insurance industry disclosures. Scope 3 emissions go beyond investment portfolios and underwriting to include operational and supply chain emissions an PCAF mandated financial ratios (premiums/customer revenue). For the insurance industry, this means tracking emissions from: ? Waste generated in operations – How much claim-related material is sent to landfill vs. diverted for reuse/recycling? ? Replacement material embodied carbon (including their transportation & distribution) ? Business travel of supply chain partners – Emissions tied to contractors, adjusters, and other field-based vendors. ? Employee commuting (but not telecommuting) ?? Why does this matter? Insurers are under growing regulatory pressure (EU CSRD, SEC Climate Rules, ISSB) to disclose and act on Scope 3 emissions. This update provides greater clarity but also raises the bar for accountability—especially in claims-related emissions that have often been overlooked. More and more technology is being used to digitally capture all types of climate data and blockchain continues to be the best tech platform to provide the needed transparency. Fiùtur’s tech is for LNG and we’ve got tech for forestry and power production and more. Jeff Cohen was just explaining to me how EU regulation is going to require American LNG deliveries to have transparent carbon accounting and more. So even with the Trump Administration killing environmental regulations, countries and states around the world will continue to put the regulatory screws on the oil and gas industry.

Trumps efforts to roll back regulation on the oil and gas industry will FAIL. The USA Already Dominates Energy Markets. Our LNG Exports have grown dramatically in the past few years. Oil and Gas companies plan for the long term and they are fully up to speed on EU Regulations which will impact the global energy markets and them. The European Union's Methane Regulation, effective from August 2024, aims to reduce methane emissions across the energy sector, including imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG). This regulation significantly impacts U.S. oil and gas companies exporting LNG to the EU. From May 2025, importers must report methane emissions data associated with their LNG supplies and by January 1, 2027, LNG imports from the USA must adhere to methane measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) standards equivalent to those in the EU. U.S. exporters will need to invest in advanced monitoring technologies and infrastructure to meet EU standards. Existing and future LNG contracts might require renegotiation to incorporate compliance clauses. Non-compliance could restrict access to the EU market, affecting revenues and market share. These regulations will compel U.S. oil and gas companies to enhance their environmental practices to maintain and expand their presence in the European market. Even Trump's tariff war is unlikely to be able to change this. And they're aware that the continuing exponential price reductions for batteries and solar are only one more nail in the coffin of oil and gas.
