Leaders Lead! The season of retirement can sharpen one’s perspective on Life, Love, Learning and especially Leadership. The last few months had many challenges but with every challenge, crisis, or even calamities, comes a compliment to life, that answers my three internal questions of did I live?, did I love?, and did I matter? ??I recently revisited a lecture from one of the influencers in my life Peter F. Drucker, where he reminded his class “there is no need for a Captain if the sea is calm”.

Spending the last two weeks with my Australian Dunghutti family and their tribal leaders for the second time was like water on my parched and tired soul. Listening to them, learning from them and falling deeper in love with them all over again I cannot put into words. The respect they have for the land, the cadence of reverence they show when entering the sea to bathe, fish, or any activity was both moving and insightful. However, the waters of their daily lives are not calm, hence Captains are in need.
?
The community Initiative our team partnered with called “Learning the Macleay” (LtM) did exactly that. Under the phenomenal leadership of Jo-Anne Kelly and her amazing team, they are developing Captains for the waters of their communities, because the water is certainly not calm.
?
Our marathon engagements commenced with participating with marking the somber 100th year commemoration of the Stolen Generation at Kinchela Boys Home. Our volunteer professional team of Physicians, Educators, youth leaders and some retired senior Military officers worked daily with LtM and other community stakeholders to increase health education, within the preschools, high schools, and even the correctional system where youth are imprisoned.

The crashing waves in our communities, both here in America and Australia are alike. ?Their story is also my story! I am inspired more that the need for the development of Captains is greater now than before. We need young inspirational leaders in this moment now more than the world ever needed before. Young leaders who are focused on service and loving people without prejudice, preconditions or hesitation. The waves in my country are the same waves in Australian, South America, Africa, and so many different countries, where declaring, defending and delivering hope is needed. Leaders lead, because leaders make the future!

I cannot wait to see the product of Australia Encounter III (AE3) July 17 - 30 2025, where the focus will be on the Next GEN Initiatives and “Down Under” Leadership Summit, led by young leaders and mentored by seasoned ones. The seas are not calm, so we need captains on board the ships. Join Us!
