Weighing in on the Super Bowl's best ad... https://lnkd.in/eKv-R8yP
🏈 The best ad during the Super Bowl? 🙆♀️ It opens with slow-mo pans of gorgeous cheerleaders in skimpy outfits. This was the best ad: "Barrage of Boobs." Why? In its opening seconds, everyone in the room could not believe their eyes. That means everyone was watching. Check the box on engagement. Men and women, married and single, all of us were momentarily stunned -- mostly because, I mean, what can you say in mixed company (or any company) these days? If you're PC, you'd have immediately protested. But later, upon seeing the payoff, you'd change your mind. There was intelligent method to the madness. And if you're just really dead-honest, you watched. You privately enjoyed the beauty of the human form, holding your breath that the ad would vindicate itself. And you for gawking at it. Me? I wondered what possible punchline would justify cut upon cut of extreme close ups of bosoms and bras. Was the advertiser insane? Have we been teleported to 1973? I'll tell you what, it was genius. Philadelphia Eagles or Kansas City Chiefs? Didn't care. I was watching to see the ads. 🏆 This was the best ad. Hands down. The payoff paid off. The creators took a chance. The chance they took was that people are people, they are smart, they embrace challenging content, a little controversy, and creative communication that makes a beautiful point with purpose. I don't know that I think differently about Novartis one way or another. But as a father to daughters and a loving partner, I care about the pay off of this ad.
