The U.S. Department of State recently celebrated the dedication of the New U.S. Consulate in Nogales. Located five kilometers from the Arizona border, the new U.S. Consulate in Nogales, Mexico is situated between commercial and residential districts on a steep hilltop site with expansive mountain views. With limited street frontage, the consulate is primarily seen from a distance and is an important symbol of U.S. interest in the region.?Providing shelter from the harsh Sonoran Desert sun, an oversized ramada responds to the regional climate and culture, while also providing the Diplomatic community with a comfortable, welcoming, and protected environment that expresses the spirit and values of the United States. The U.S. Department of State shared a press release about the dedication: "The new consulate in Nogales, designed by Ennead Architects with Page as the Architect of Record and constructed by BL Harbert International, involved a total investment of $203 million, with $70 million directly invested into the local economy. The facility has a(n)... emphasis on sustainability through shading elements, native landscaping, and renewable resources. Expanded consular services reinforce the vital economic and people-to-people ties between Arizona and Sonora, while the design and construction integrate local materials and art to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the region on both sides of the border." Chicago Athenaeum has recognized four Ennead projects with International Architecture Awards. Awarded in the Commercial category, Taopu Smart City Plot 605 is part of a new district being planned around one of Shanghai’s largest future parks. The design actively engages its context, creating strong visual, pedestrian, and infrastructure connections with the surrounding site, district, and city. Recap of Esri’s first-ever event specifically for the architecture community - An Exploration of GIS in Architecture - hosted by our friends at Ennead Architects at their amazing One World Trade Center office in Lower Manhattan yesterday afternoon: Thanks so much to everyone who helped make this event a success - we were unsure how things would go or how it would be received by the audience, but I was thrilled to hear such positive feedback from the attendees I was able to chat with. We first heard from Ennead’s Masha Konopleva, Samuel Johnson, and Nazanin Modares on how they’ve incorporated GIS into their design, research and planning work across multiple scales. Cheryle Cranbourne and Aditi Patel of The LiRo Group presented on their BIM-GIS integration work for the innovative (and first of its kind) 3D Digital Tax Map project for NYC Department of Finance. Scott Bailey, MCSE, CDT and Ann C. Jimenez of Gold Sponsor and Esri Partner Team D3 presented on their digital twin approach and project examples. HNTB’s Patrick Gahagan and James Van Schoick presented on the importance of executive vision and good BIM standards in implementing Indoor GIS and IPS at major airports. Finally, Alana Pogostin of the Esri NYC Local Government team provided a “State of GIS in NYC” overview and moderated an insightful panel discussion between Carmela Quintos of NYC DOF and Roger Weld, PE, PMP, MBA of NYC DOT around their vision on how GIS technology can support a more effective, equitable, and sustainable city government. On the way to the Social, Silver Sponsor inCitu’s Nick Kaufmann demonstrated their 3D GIS-based augmented reality mobile solution for community engagement at the 5 World Trade Center site. Congratulations to Esri’s Architecture & Urban Design Strategy Lead, Clay Starr, for having the vision for this event and leading all the preparation and planning along with Renia Kagkou, Kris Hirte, Brad Eagy and Alana Pogostin (and the Esri Events Team) — looking forward to the next one! Thank you to Amy Mielke and the team at Ennead Architects. Great to connect with old and new friends - thanks so much to everyone for making it out Andrew Keane, PE Karim Ahmed Jess Bhamra, AIA, LEED AP Charlie Bontempo Julia Fruithandler Michael Samuelian #AEC #Architecture #ArcGIS

Yesterday East Harlem Tutorial Program celebrated the ribbon cutting of Scholar's Academy High School. The design of the new Scholars Academy High School embodies East Harlem Tutorial Program’s (EHTP) vision, fostering a strong institutional and community identity that inspires students on their paths to higher education. The building?features specialized classrooms for art and music and fully equipped biology, chemistry, and physics labs. The lower levels of the building house shared spaces, including a gymnasium, a black box theater,?a cafeteria, and a roof garden. These adaptable spaces support EHTP’s diverse after-school programs and serve as venues for community events, providing flexibility to accommodate various schedules and activities. “Ennead aims to create an uplifting environment that encourages the pursuit of higher education while also functioning as an open, welcoming space for the wider East Harlem community to congregate and connect. Using feedback gathered from conversations with families, students, and community members, we created a design that thoughtfully weaves the space into the fabric of the city that surrounds it. As the first new public high school opening in the community in decades, we hope this serves as a model for future public schools throughout the city for years to come"?- Stephen Chu, Partner at Ennead Architects. “We are honored to partner with East Harlem Tutorial Program to expand their successful educational model to a newly designed location that will propel the future generation to success,” said?Molly McGowan, Partner at Ennead Architects.?“Ennead’s design approach to K-12 institutions focuses on creating dynamic spaces that engender collaborative learning, support a range of teaching modalities, and facilitate intellectual curiosity and flexibility that improve student outcomes, making it easy to integrate our expertise with EHTP’s similar mission.” stephen chu, Minh Tran Alfonso Gorini, AIA #ennead #enneadarchitects #ehtp #highschool #k12architecture #architecture

Ennead Partner?Richard Olcott?wrote an article for retrofit Magazine?discussing the transformation of?the? The Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center?as an example of how existing architecture can be re-invented to serve modern communities and support brand identity. Addressing the possibilities of adaptive reuse, Richard writes "The transformation of 555 Pennsylvania Avenue is more than just a renovation; it’s a story of adaptive—if not radical—reuse that honors the past while embracing the future. By reimagining the interior and exterior, the team created a dynamic, state-of-the-art learning environment that enriches Washington, D.C.’s urban fabric while enhancing JHU’s expertise, research, and presence in the nation’s capital."
