POWERED BY POSSIBLE The world is more fragile than ever. Food shortages have left millions of people hungry, while violent conflict has sent millions on the run. From poverty and malnutrition to natural disasters and climate change, it’s easy to see a world of insurmountable challenges. Instead, we see an opportunity to create transformative change. We see the world differently. In crisis, we believe in the power of human potential. In struggle, we believe in the ability of communities to grow stronger. So we act differently. We understand that communities are the best agents of their own change and local markets are the best engines of long-term recovery. In more than 40 countries, we partner to put bold solutions into action, helping people triumph over adversity and grow stronger from within. For the refugee who dreams of rebuilding her country, for the mother who wants a healthy future for her children — for millions of people filled with the power of possibility —Mercy Corps connects people to the resources they need to build better, stronger lives. We create transformative change. Mercy Corps has responded to nearly every global emergency over the past 20 years. Since 1979, we have provided $3.7 billion in lifesaving assistance throughout the world. Each year we infuse millions of dollars into local economies through small business loans and grants to provide livelihoods for the world’s most vulnerable people. We are empowering more than 100,000 youth trapped by violent conflict to overcome the profound stress of war and become change makers in their communities. We are powered by the belief that a better world is possible. Join us.

The latest version of the NCQG isn't strong enough on gender, says Salomé Lehtman, Project and Advocacy Advisor for Mercy Corps. In today's update from COP29 Azerbaijan, she explains why this issue matters so much, both now and for the future.

In Dnipro, #Ukraine, Daryna* is starting a new chapter and keeping traditions alive, one stitch at a time.???? Daryna learned how to sew from her grandmother in their village of Bakhmut, and continued the practice as she grew up, had children, and joined a local sewing group. When the war broke out, she was forced to flee with her pets as her home was destroyed—but Daryna hasn’t let tragedy stop her. Daryna has since started a small business making traditional clothing, dolls, and other textiles. To bolster her production, she received a Mercy Corps grant to buy a new sewing machine and iron. She also hosts volunteers who create altered clothing for veterans who were injured in combat, giving back to her community the best way she knows how. ??

At #COP29, one thing is clear: climate finance is the key to progress.?? Without it, adaptation measures remain unfunded, the costs of losses and damages are borne by those who did not cause the climate crisis, and the necessary mitigation efforts falter. Maureen said it best: “It’s time to stop the talking and take the #BoldClimateAction that people committed to.” #ClimateJustice??

???We always leave every conversation with Elizabeth Wathuti , O.G.W feeling inspired and ready to fight for a greener, more equitable future for all. ? As #COP29 comes to a close, this is the moment for countries to step up and deliver promises that prioritize the needs of the world’s most vulnerable communities. ? With the climate crisis intensifying every day, the stakes couldn’t be higher. Let’s get to work.?? #ClimateJustice #BoldClimateAction

We’re happy to see that the needs of vulnerable communities are more at the center of conversations at #COP29. However, we want real, long-term commitments that will turn these words into actions. Wealthy nations, who bear primary responsibility for the climate crisis, have an obligation to invest in and support fragile and conflict-affected countries that have been particularly ignored. #ClimateJustice #BoldClimateAction

?? Honored to be part of this incredible working group behind the Arab Philanthropy Commitment on Climate Change, launched at #COP29Azerbaijan! The Arab region is warming nearly twice as fast as the global average, and low-income communities are feeling the brunt of this climate crisis. It’s clear that urgent, collective action is needed to address this growing disparity. Philanthropy has the power to lead, innovate, and drive sustainable solutions – but we must act together and act now. Proud to see the support of partners like AFF, WINGS, and the Ford Foundation, and grateful for the collaboration with the League of Arab States - General Secretariat in co-hosting this important launch event. #PhilanthropyForClimate #ClimateJustice #ArabRegion
Excited to announce that we just launched the Arab Philanthropy Commitment on Climate Change at #COP29Azerbaijan! The Arab region is warming nearly twice as fast as the global average, and low-income communities across the region are disproportionately suffering the dire effects of the #climatecrisis. #philanthropy has the resources, influence, and innovation to address this climate injustice – but we have to act together, and we have to act now! The APCCC is a call for philanthropic organizations across the region to collaborate on a movement for sustainable and equitable #climateaction. Led by AFF, with support from WINGS and the Ford Foundation, this is the first regional commitment in the global #PhilanthropyForClimate movement, which has over 800 signatories and counting. Developed by a Working Group of philanthropic organizations dedicated to tackling #climateinjustice in the region, it adapts the International Philanthropy Commitment’s pillars of action to provide recommendations for addressing the economic, social, and environmental impacts of climate change from a uniquely Arab perspective. Find out more and sign the Commitment to join us on this journey towards a safer, healthier, and fairer future!: https://lnkd.in/eXPugh68 Thank you to the League of Arab States - General Secretariat for co-hosting today's launch event! #philanthropyforclimate #arabclimatecommitment American Friends Service Committee The Asfari Foundation The END Fund EDGE Funders Alliance Greenish Greenpeace ??????? Today at COP29 Azerbaijan, we’re proud to endorse the Common Principles for Effective Climate Finance and Action for Relief, Recovery, and Peace alongside 50+ alongside 50+ other institutions, states, UN agencies, and civil society organisations. The Principles provide clear guidance on how to deliver effective, conflict-sensitive #ClimateAdaptation. It is critical that #peace remains central to the #COP29 agenda this year, and in the years to come, if we are serious about breaking the vicious cycle of climate, conflict, and fragility. Anneliese Dodds, UK Minister for International Development at Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office: "We need everyone coming on board in the months ahead, if we are to make sure that our interventions are tailored to different communities and contexts, that we remain agile as we learn throughout our response, that we prioritize local leadership and ownership of solutions, and that we are working together with a much more joined-up approach." ?? https://lnkd.in/e24FJDBp
