A massive storm ripped through multiple states this weekend, unleashing deadly tornadoes across the Central and Southeast U.S. In just 24 hours, 12 tornadoes devastated #Mississippi, claiming six lives, injuring dozens, and leaving thousands without power. Mercy Chefs is on the ground in #Tylertown, MS, and surrounding counties to serve hot, chef-prepared meals to those without power and displaced by the storm. Severe winter storms brought torrential rain and deadly flooding to West Virginia, Virginia, and Kentucky, leaving roads, bridges, buildings, and homes damaged. With power outages across counties and grocery stores and restaurants closed, many families are struggling to access food. Mercy Chefs is on the ground in Pikeville, KY, to serve chef-prepared hot meals and deliver hundreds of grocery boxes to families in need, including those in West Virginia and Virginia. Ever wonder how Mercy Chefs guarantees a HOT meal to people in need when we’re serving in disaster? Our incredible partner, Sterno Products, keeps our team stocked with insulated food carriers that make it possible for us to deliver meals to partners or door-to-door, keeping them warm in the process! Sterno has been helping us on the frontlines of disasters for years. During our most recent deployment responding to the California Wildfires, they generously donated 40 brand-new insulated bags to support our efforts! Sterno also supports the work of our community kitchens—providing bags that keep our meals warm and fresh as they are transported to after-school programs and community events. Their partnership reminds us of the incredible difference we can make when we come together to serve our neighbors. Mercy Chefs has officially opened a bigger and better Beacon of Hope Kitchen in Black Mountain, NC! This new kitchen will allow us to serve thousands of hot meals daily to Hurricane Helene survivors in Western North Carolina. Communities here are still in desperate need of help. People are still living in tents and trailers. Some people still have no method of transportation, and many have lost their jobs as they no longer have a place of work to return to. In the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Helene, we served over 350,000 hot meals to survivors out of a mobile kitchen. However, we knew we’d need a more permanent indoor location to support long-term recovery, so we quickly secured a small commercial kitchen that allowed us to feed some of the most vulnerable populations. While we worked, we continued to search for a larger facility that would allow us to meet the great ongoing need in Western North Carolina. We are blessed to announce that God has provided us with the kitchen and staff that we need to now serve up to 5,000 meals a day to Helene survivors.
