    Here we go again. The next massive trade shifts from the U.S. are here. What’s happening? As of today, March 4: ?? U.S. moves forward with 25% tariffs on Canada & Mexico. ?? China tariffs doubled from 10% to 20%, with some products now possibly facing 45% total duties. ?? De minimis for Canada & Mexico stays (for now), but only until a system is in place to collect tariffs - just like what happened with China. And that’s not all. The next wave of costs may not come from shipping fees. The U.S. is investigating China’s maritime industry, which could lead to additional fees of $100–$1,000+ per container. Meanwhile, the EU is preparing to retaliate against U.S. trade measures, which could cause even more supply chain disruptions. What does it mean for print-on-demand sellers who rely on fulfillment outside the U.S? ??The costs rise. POD blanks, packaging, and supplies just got more expensive. ?? Shipping will slow down.     The past few weeks have been a stark reminder of how fragile global supply chains can be. Print-on-demand sellers have been caught in a whirlwind of tariff hikes, policy reversals, and shipping disruptions - and there’s no sign of stability anytime soon. What is happening? ?? The de minimis exemption, which allows duty-free imports under $800, remains temporarily reinstated, but its long-term status is uncertain. Efforts are underway to develop a system for efficiently collecting tariffs on Chinese imports while minimizing disruptions to deliveries. ?? Meanwhile, the EU is pushing for a deal with the U.S. to avoid a tariff war that could affect transatlantic shipping. President Trump’s administration has already imposed tariffs on EU steel, aluminum, cars, pharmaceuticals, and semiconductor chips, adding another layer of uncertainty. ??Harley Finkelstein, President of Shopify on Business Insider, is advocating for keeping the de minimis exemption, arguing that small businesses rely on duty-free imports to stay competitive. "Tariffs impact real entrepreneurs that are carving out livelihoods for themselves. We try to protect and empower every business we can, but obviously, especially, we care about the underdogs." His stance reflects the reality that many sellers depend on low-cost imports from China and other regions to maintain margins. But recent events prove just how risky global sourcing has become.     De minimis is back! To be gone again tomorrow? Just days after the de minimis exemption for Chinese shipments under $800 was removed, the U.S. suddenly reinstated it. Will it be gone again tomorrow? Nobody knows. ?? The exemption stays only until a system is in place to collect tariffs efficiently. No timeline. No certainty. No promises.
