With AI gaining traction in the healthcare sector, our cohort of 12 #healthtech startups were thrilled to learn about prospects and challenges in this space during their session on Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and Health as part of our ongoing ELEVATE US HealthTech programme in partnership with Cedars-Sinai Technology Ventures. Jason H. Moore, PhD, FACMI, FIAHSI, FASA, Director, Center for Artificial Intelligence Research and Education, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, shared insights on immense opportunities that AI has opened-up in transforming clinical efficiency and care delivery, and at the same time highlighted key challenges that need to be addressed. ? This week, we feature Meracle, a #healthtech venture that aims to revolutionize management of patients with chronic respiratory conditions, such as Asthma and COPD. Their intelligent Whizz spacer solution improves treatment compliance and outcomes by providing real-time guidance on effective delivery of medication into lungs through reinforcement of correct techniques. With the ELEVATE US HealthTech programme, Meracle aims to engage Cedars-Sinai KOLs to understand how their solution aligns with the current clinical workflow and pilot a clinical trial in the US health system. Founder and CTO Rachel Hong values her engagements with various thought leaders and clinical champions and shared that the ELEVATE US programme has provided “insights into defining the market, sticking to one's core competency as well as challenges with the reimbursement process”. Analogous to a car slowing down to navigate around a tight bend on the road, kids with #asthma should inhale their medication slowly so that more of it reaches the lungs rather than being deposited at the back of the throat. However, unlike cars, these kids do not have a speedometer to help them gauge and adjust.?This is why we developed the Whizz. ?? This road sign along Sleeper Ave, Mountain View reflects this perfectly. Meracle was at Fogarty Innovation for a three week, deep dive into our technology, company and commercialization plans as part of the Singapore Biodesign’s Bolt Initiative. We are grateful to the Fogarty Innovation team for helping us refine our strategy, identify our blind spots and challenge our assumptions, and to Singapore Biodesign for this opportunity! ?? I had the pleasure of engaging with investors, entrepreneurs and researchers from the vibrant MedTech community at A*STAR - Agency for Science, Technology and Research. I was heartened to witness different parts of the ecosystem coming together to exchange ideas and provide valuable insights into the dynamic developments and challenges in the industry. In line with the government’s commitment to support the MedTech industry's growth, I had earlier announced a $38M MedTech Catapult Initiative during the Ministry of Trade and Industry (Singapore)’s 2024 Committee of Supply debate. This national initiative aims to enhance device product development infrastructure and bolster high-value manufacturing capabilities for MedTech companies. I strongly encourage more companies to tap into such platforms to help accelerate their growth. I look forward to seeing more collaborations and success stories from the MedTech community!
