The White House National Space Council invited Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) Directors from around the country, including our very own?Senior Director, Jeff Spain, to participate in a?roundtable discussion on the space industry's current and future workforce needs! The roundtable included information about the space industry's education and career pathways and the Space Workforce Coalition. ?? The Administration also shared its space STEM priorities and national efforts to strengthen and grow the space workforce! The roundtable discussion was held at the White House in Washington, D.C. ? Earlier this month, MEP team members Chaylee Liberator (Director of Operations), Karen Kyle and Maria Santiago (Project Managers)—had the incredible opportunity to attend the?Women in Manufacturing (WiM) 2024 Summit in Boston, from October 6 to October 9. This year’s event attracted 2,100+ attendees and focused on the theme, "Champion for Success," highlighting WiM’s commitment to advancing and empowering women in the manufacturing industry. Some highlights of the summit included: ? An inspiring keynote by?Sam Rapoport, Senior Director at the?NFL, on creating impactful DEI initiatives and becoming champions of change within your organization.? ?An amazing speech by?Heather Burton, Ph.D. Associate Vice President and Senior Director for Faculty and Institutional Diversity at Case Western Reserve University who reminded us that we are more than just labels - our identities are complex, intersecting in ways that make us uniquely who we are. Let’s not allow anyone to put us in a box. And remember, we all carry some form of privilege -it's how we use it to uplift and empower one another that truly makes a difference. ?A standout session by?Meagan O'Brien O’Brien, founder of The O’Brien Group and part of?Second City?improv comedy group, where she shared her journey of career risk-taking and led engaging professional development improv workshops. ?? Our team also had the privilege of touring the?Massachusetts Clean Energy Center's Wind Technology Testing Center, where they learned about the process behind testing and certifying wind turbine blades. The team left feeling inspired by the stories, connections, and tools they gained.
