The Municipal Engineers of the City of New York was established as a Society on April 3, 1903 to: - Promote and advance the various engineering sciences which are employed in the government of the City of New York and to elevate the standards of proficiency of the technical services of the City - Promote the welfare and enhance the economic standard of the City's engineering and related services - Is a 501(c)(3) organization under Title 26 of the United State Code As the Society established its Constitution and became one of the leading technical/professional organizations within the City, it further broadened the interpretation of professional affiliation, mission, goals and objectives. Today, our membership includes Engineers, Architects and Scientists, as well as men and women practicing in allied fields from the public and private sectors. A prominent Board of Directors and Past Presidents develop an annual schedule of interesting activities and events organized through various Committees: Publications, Lecture, Inspection, Awards and Prizes, Scholarships, Publicity and Membership including: Educational programming, including monthly technical presentations and field tours featuring metropolitan area public works such as bridges and other transportation facilities, water distribution systems and other architecturally or historically significant structures. Special events such as the Wimmer Memorial Forum and Reception, Scholarship Presentations and a Dinner Dance honoring our Engineer/Architect of the Year, Young Engineer of the Year and Municipal Project of the Year.

The Municipal Engineers of the City of New York will celebrate its Annual Dinner-Dance and Installation of Officers at Terrace on the Park in Flushing Meadows Park on Friday, November 22, 2024. Sudha Mannava and Lindsay Degueldre have been re-nominated as President and First Vice President, respectively. This year, we have the privilege of honoring Mr. Paul Schwartz, P.E. as Municipal Engineer of the Year. As Deputy Commissioner of Bridges of the NYC Department of Transportation, Mr. Schwartz oversees nearly 800 bridges and tunnels. His academic and professional achievements are truly inspiring. Mr. Schwartz holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering from Cornell University, College of Engineering. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New York. We will honor Ms. Kathryn Garcia as Industry Leader of the Year. Ms. Garcia currently serves as the Director of State Operations for the State of New York. She previously served as Commissioner for the NYC Sanitation Department, interim Chair of the NYC Housing Authority, and Chief Operating Officer of the NYC Department of Environmental Protection. We proudly announce that we are recognizing two Young Engineers this year. Ms. Ketty Paulino, P.E., PMP, Engineer in Charge at New York City Department of Design and Construction will receive the Young Engineer award. Ms. Paulino has a master’s degree in construction management. She is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New York. Ms. Afroz Surti, P.E., ENV SP, Design Engineer, New York City Department of Design and Construction will also receive the Young Engineer award. Ms. Surti has a master's degree in geotechnical engineering and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering She is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New York. The Municipal Project of the Year awards will be presented to the Hunts Point Interstate Access Improvements Design-Build Project (HP2) and the Long Island Railroad Expansion from Floral Park to Hicksville Stations Project.
