California Funders for Boys and Men of Color (CFBMoC) is excited to partner with MENTOR California to convene a cohort of grantees to inform the development of a 5-year education system blueprint in Sacramento-San Joaquin Valley. CFBMoC has awarded a total of $300,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations working to increase the number of boys and men of color pursuing and completing a post-secondary degree or career technical certificate program by 2030. Mentor California will provide training and technical support, co-convening the cohort of grantee partners to collaboratively create a comprehensive education blueprint. Focusing on uplifting the inherent strengths and potential of boys of color, the blueprint will consist of resources such as curriculum design, culturally relevant teaching practices, mentorship models, mental health support, community engagement strategies, and resources for advancing systemic change through policy development. “MENTOR California is thrilled to partner with the California Funders for Boys and Men of Color to design an education blueprint alongside our dedicated community partners, creating a transformative path for boys of color—one that celebrates their brilliance, supports their growth, and opens doors to limitless possibilities” - Marcus Strother, Executive Director, MENTOR California “Students of color deserve expanded support to reduce racial disparities in college enrollment and completion. By leveraging the power of mentorship and investing in community-driven solutions, this blueprint will lay a foundation for academic success and well-being for the next generation. We’re excited to partner with MENTOR California in building a future where every young man of color has pathways to thrive.” - Chet P. Hewitt Founding CEO, Sierra Health Foundation

A few weeks ago I was blessed with the opportunity to speak on behalf of 2K at the Golden State Warriors for National Mentorship Month. It meant the world to me to sit down and speak with students who look just like me, and to share with them that all of this is possible with faith, consistency and hard work. I started this journey at 2K almost 8 years ago with an email from Ronnie Singh, so to sit alongside him on stage after all these years was an honor and a dream come true. Special thanks to Erica Archambault McCabe for thinking of me and trusting me to share my story. Also, major shouts to Marcus Strother with MENTOR California for connecting the dots and making a difference for so many students across the country.

?? Mentors Need Love Too – Closing Out Mentorship Awareness Month with Impact! ?? As Mentorship Awareness Month comes to a close, we’re reminded that mentorship isn’t just about giving—it’s about growing. Our Founder & Executive Director, Adamaka Ajaelo, attended the Mentors Need Love Too event, hosted by Valkyries & Mentor California, and it was a powerful testament to the impact of mentorship. ?? Did you know? Mentored youth are 55% more likely to enroll in college and 78% more likely to volunteer in their communities. ?? But here’s the real game-changer—when we invest in mentors, we uplift entire communities. ?? The panel was packed with wisdom, the conversations were intentional, and the energy was electric. One thing was clear—mentorship is a two-way street. We uplift, we listen, we challenge, and we grow—together. ? Let’s Keep the Momentum Going! Be the Mentor You Once Needed. Mentorship doesn’t stop when the month ends. At Self-eSTEM, we are building the future of STEM through mentorship, representation, and opportunity. Now, we need YOU! ?? The Golden State Valkyries Mentoring Month has been so rewarding to produce. Mentors Need Love, Too was such a beautiful event where we shared best practices, stories, and simply loved on each other. Sometimes we forget to check in on our “strong friends” the ones serving the youth, the ones spending their own money to make sure everyone else have what they need, the ones putting everyone first before themselves…. We wanted to check on their heart posture and let them know; we see you, we support you, and we love you. Thank you MENTOR California Marcus Strother for your partnership and Dominique Bocanegra for crushing it! ??????
