MHA held their Annual Coffee with a Veteran social event on November 21, where individuals from the public are able to spend some time chatting with local veterans over a cup of coffee (along with other drinks and snacks). Many attended to support and thank our veterans! MHA assists local veterans and their families who reside in Morris County, providing them with psychotherapy services and group counseling support to their family and friends. Thank you to the New Jersey Symphony Leadership Quartet for presenting on leadership at MHA's November directors meeting! This interactive workshop explored new ways of thinking about business practices and leadership in professional settings. It provided audience members with the opportunity to discuss, reflect on and apply the leadership principles observed. The workshop concluded with a performance of the quartets work!

MHA had the honor of attending and co-sponsoring the YMCA Of Montclair’s Honoring Our Veterans event on Thursday, November 7th! This event celebrated and honored veterans within the community, including MHA Board Vice President Emerson Crooks and MHA Board Member Det. Ingrid Lops. It was a powerful evening dedicated to those who have served, and we couldn’t be prouder of our board members and their commitment to both our nation and our community. Thank you to the YMCA of Montclair for hosting this meaningful event and to all veterans for your courage and sacrifice.

Social isolation is a major public health concern among older adults, with the National Institute of Health identifying it as a significant issue. The World Health Organization reports that 1 in 3 older adults experience loneliness. MHA’s Senior In-Home Therapy Program takes a comprehensive approach to address this challenge. Alongside providing in-home therapy and connecting clients to social programs in Morris County, they've created coping kits designed to enrich seniors' time alone with positive activities. These kits include adult coloring books, puzzles, arts and crafts, and more to encourage creativity and engagement, helping to create a more uplifting and supportive environment for seniors.

On October 27, MHA’s Suicide Prevention team attended the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention - New Jersey Chapter Out of the Darkness Walk in Verona, NJ for Essex County! We were honored to connect with the community and even got to engage participants in our 'Plant a Positive Message' activity. Please come out and show support for the annual Van Vleck House & Gardens Scarecrow and Pumpkins in the Garden! MHA is highlighting the importance of housing for vulnerable individuals including people with mental health conditions in Essex county and beyond. The exhibit was inspired by MHA's Intensive Family Support Services (IFSS) family driven Housing Committee. A shout out to members of Thursday's Social Drop-In group for their contribution of the painted pumpkin designs. The exhibit runs from October 19 - November 2 please come and enjoy the beautiful gardens and vote for the "Housing is Key," display. Judging will be determined by community online voting. It was a beautiful day of advocacy on Friday, October 18th, during the Morris County Mental Health Coalition's 6th Annual Legislative Breakfast! The breakfast event featured more than 220 elected officials, executives, stakeholders and community members who spoke on issues pertaining to mental health, as well as opportunities to address ongoing developments, and current challenges facing the field. Thank you to Senator Anthony M. Bucco, Assemblywoman Aura Dunn, Morris County Sheriff's Office Sheriff James M. Gannon and Morris County Prosecutor's Office Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll for addressing the crowd. Keynote speakers at the event was Kelly Lerner Sanders, Director of NJ Office of Public Defender Division of Mental Health Advocacy; and Dr. Kay Redfield Jamison, PhD, Professor of Psychiatry and Co-Director of Johns Hopkins Mood Disorders Center and Author of “Fires in the Dark: Healing the Unquiet Mind”, providing unique insights into the history and healing of mood disorders.
