Yesterday, the CEO Alliance for Mental Health – a coalition of CEOs from the nation’s leading organizations dedicated to improving the lives of people living with mental health and substance use conditions – released a statement regarding reported plans to significantly reduce the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). “Significant cuts to SAMHSA staff and resources would impact Americans in every corner of the country. Cuts would reduce oversight of the important grant programs that SAMHSA operates that help people with the most severe mental illnesses, hamper efforts to improve 988 awareness and crisis response systems for people, curtail the progress we have made on reducing overdose deaths, and harm SAMHSA’s work in bringing mental health resources to rural communities.” Read the full statement: https://lnkd.in/gG5sE4yG

  • If you’ve ever flown on a plane, you’ve probably heard the phrase, “Put your oxygen mask on first,” during the safety instructions. It makes sense - you can’t help the people around you until you’ve helped yourself. So, why is it so hard to apply this to our mental health? When we take the time to care for ourselves, we have a greater capacity to care for others. If your cup is empty, you can’t be present in a way that’s helpful for yourself or others. Filling your cup (or putting on your oxygen mask) first isn’t selfish - it’s necessary for us to be able to show up for the people we care about. Read more about the importance of self-care: https://lnkd.in/es5Seyi3 If you’re struggling or in crisis, help is available. Call or text 988 or chat 988lifeline.org. You can also reach Crisis Text Line by texting HELLO to 741741.
