“If you’re having a hard time, you often seek out someone else who went through something similar.” Kelly Davis, VP of Peer and Youth Advocacy at Mental Health America, was recently featured in TIME alongside a paper she published last year. The article explores the expanding role of peer support and peer-to-peer approaches, particularly within the realm of mental health technology. It highlights the unique ability of peer support to foster critical outcomes such as belonging, empowerment, and connection—elements that profoundly impact mental well-being. Did you know there are 91.3 million caregivers in the United States today? Caregivers are there to provide invaluable support to their loved ones; they’re parents, relatives, friends, partners, adult children, and neighbors. But caregiving isn’t easy – caregivers often place the needs of their care recipients above their own, which can have a significant impact on their mental health. This #NationalFamilyCaregiversMonth, we want to remind all the caregivers out there that it’s important to nourish your mental well-being, too. Lisell Pacheco, Senior Director of Programs at the Elizabeth Dole Foundation, helped break down the ways military and veteran caregivers can learn to care for their mental health in our latest guest blog. ?? Today is #RuralHealthDay, and we can’t think of a better time to talk about how crucial it is to normalize talking about mental health in rural communities. Living in a rural area presents different advantages and disadvantages when it comes to caring for your mental health. While these spaces can provide comfort, community, and tranquility, they can also be isolating and have limited available mental health resources. At Mental Health America, we recognize the importance of addressing rural mental health head-on. That’s why we partnered with West Fraser, a global wood products company, to create our Rural Mental Health Resource Hub, a space to raise awareness, break down stigma, and provide resources to support the mental well-being of those living in rural communities. Together, we’re committed to ensuring everyone, no matter where they live, has access to the mental health care they deserve. mhanational.org/rural

According to The Trevor Project, 37% of trans and nonbinary youth reported that they have been physically threatened or harmed due to their gender identity. Today, on Transgender Day of Remembrance (#TDOR), we honor the memory of transgender individuals whose lives have been lost to anti-trans violence. These heinous acts of violence can have a profoundly negative impact on the mental health of trans individuals. You are not alone. ????? Find information and support in our Transgender Resource center at mhanational.org/trans. Mental Health America is committed to providing a safe and supportive space for everyone. We will remove any harmful comments that violate our values of inclusivity and respect. Help us create a space where everyone feels safe and valued.
