World Spine Day urges individuals to understand the worldwide impact of spinal pain and disability. It aims to empower people of all ages, across all nations to adopt strategies for maintaining spinal health. Dr. Suhel Kotwal, orthopedic oncologist at Menorah, recently completed his 100th robot-assisted spinal surgery. His precision work helps patients with better outcomes and quality of life post-surgery. Key Facts: In 2020, low back pain (LBP) affected 619 million people globally and it is estimated that the number of cases will increase to 843 million cases by 2050, driven largely by population expansion and aging. LBP is the single leading cause of disability worldwide and the condition for which the greatest number of people may benefit from rehabilitation. LBP can be experienced at any age, and most people experience LBP at least once in their life. Prevalence increases with age up to 80 years, while the highest number of LBP cases occurs at the age of 50–55 years. LBP is more prevalent in women. In an effort to raise awareness of the dangers of prescription drug misuse and the importance of safe and proper disposal we are partnering with local law enforcement for a community-wide event. Menorah will host a national prescription drug take back on Saturday, October 26 from 10am - 2pm. Called "Crush the Crisis," the event aligns with the Drug Enforcement Administration's (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Menorah Medical Center is not only a Healthgrades Top 50 and Top 100 hospital in surgical care and orthopedics respectively, but it is now home to 100 robot-assisted spine procedures performed by Dr. Suhel Kotwal, an orthopedic oncologist specialist. Dr. Kotwal is renowned for his work not only with hip and knee replacements, but with his precision and ultra-detailed work with the spine. He uses robotic technology to create better outcomes for his patients. “When doing spinal surgery I have to navigate a narrow space to place the instruments. On either side are ‘delicate elements,’ such as nerves. With robot-assisted technology I can be exact with each patient’s unique needs, this helps with being precise, and the safety around spinal nerves.” Learn more about the Orthopedics program at Menorah by clicking here https://bit.ly/4eF7h2g

It may be pumpkin spice season for some people, but for Menorah it's orange cone season. This means we are working at various places around the property inside and out- to continually improve the experience at our hospital for patients and visitors. We appreciate your patience as we work on the enhancements. If you encounter challenges during this time period, please reach out to a member of our Safety and Security team. We are here to listen and understand.

Understanding what our patients go through is what we work to do everyday. Part of that process includes us "walking in their world." Today members from our nursing and leadership teams sampled liquid diet foods that are often prescribed for patients who may undergo gastroenterology, colorectal or bariatric procedures. Having an understanding of what these foods taste like (especially for a liquid), help us gain an understanding of what patients are feeling and how they may struggle in these situations. Why do we do it? Because giving compassionate care for every patient, every day is our priority. #CareLikeFamily
