Blue Ocean Technologies, LLC's CEO Brian Hyndman, speaking at FIA, Inc.'s Boca50, emphasized the dominance of the alternative trading system (ATS) model in overnight U.S. equities trading, despite emerging competitors. Operating from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. ET, Blue Ocean caters to global investors, particularly in Asia and Europe, where 75-80% of its volume originates. To enhance performance, the company transitioned to Members Exchange (MEMX) technology in 2024, significantly boosting capacity and reliability. Hyndman highlighted expansion plans in Tokyo, Seoul, and Europe while dismissing the need for tokenizing equities for 24-hour trading. With overnight trading volumes surging from 700 million to 1.7 billion shares, Hyndman sees a growing global demand for extended market access. “The ATS model will remain dominant for the next three to five years,” he stated, citing challenges in real-time trade reporting. Blue Ocean continues to bridge the gap left by traditional exchanges, shaping the future of 24/5 trading.
