Meet Mytchell Walker. Originally from Alabaster, AL, Mytchell is the new Music Librarian for the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. Prior to joining the MSO, Mytchell served as Assistant Librarian for the Alabama Symphony Orchestra and the Brevard Music Festival. Alongside his work as a librarian, Mytchell has been an active educator, teaching at various schools in the Birmingham metro area. As a bass trombonist, he has performed with esteemed ensembles, including the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, the Louisiana Philharmonic, Birmingham SuperJazz, and the Red Mountain Chamber Orchestra. Mytchell holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Montevallo. Join us in welcoming him to Memphis and the MSO Family.

We are deeply grateful and honored to have participated in such a meaningful event. Yesterday, the Shelby County Division of Corrections hosted the Memphis Symphony Orchestra for a special performance of Beyond The Bars. In partnership with Shell on Wheels, this marked the first time the Symphony brought the transformative power of music to the facility. This performance provided an opportunity for reflection, connection, and rehabilitation, as incarcerated individuals and their families came together through the beauty of music. Last week (ok ok, it was a productive busy week!), I was able to celebrate the season opening of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra with the Circle of Friends. It's a strong group of women (and a growing base of men!) with an important mission, "The Circle continues to represent diverse community investors, now including like-minded men, who recognize the importance of people from different networks coming together through a shared vision to expand cultural relatedness. They have a sense of social consciousness and a desire to work as an instrument of intentional inclusion through the arts." I'm proud to be a member of such an important group.
