As we celebrate Black History Month, our employees are sharing what it means to them and how their perspectives are shaping the Memorial Hermann experience.
For Rhoshonda, the month represents a legacy of innovation and resilience that continues to inspire her both personally and professionally.
“Black History Month is a reminder of the struggles, triumphs and contributions of Black people all over the world who have shaped our history in the face of unimaginable opposition,” she says. “It is also a time of reflection to celebrate the culture, creativity and legacy while recognizing the work that still needs to be done to ensure equity and inclusion for generations to come.”
Her experience as a Black woman has provided her with a deeper sense of appreciation for her culture and empowered her to make a positive impact on her community, she says.
“Professionally, it has provided a unique perspective on the benefits and challenges that I have experienced in my career,” she says. “Each experience has inspired me to not limit my creativity and innovation to be a leader, as well as a follower, by collaborating with others to create opportunities that will progressively improve the workplace and community in transformative ways.”
In her role as a talent acquisition recruiter, she’s using her experience to help enhance the culture at Memorial Hermann.
“I look for ways to empower the community with employment opportunities by treating every candidate as an individual,” she says. “To understand their unique career goals, skills and motivations and tailor my approach to making them feel valued and vitally important to the patients and community they are being hired to serve.”
