As we celebrate Women’s History Month, meet Le-Tondra, who says helping others has always been her passion. After supporting her mother through her health challenges, she knew she wanted to pursue a career in health care to make a positive impact on others. She began at Memorial Hermann Health System as a medical assistant, but soon realized she wanted to contribute more. With support and mentorship from her team, she went on to further her education. “I have encountered women in different leadership roles who have eagerly provided me support and recommended opportunities that helped me accomplish my goals,” she says. “Since then, I have grown professionally, obtained a bachelor’s degree in health care management specializing in gerontology and my master’s degree in health care management.” Now as a lead practice advisor for the Memorial Hermann Physician Network (MHMD), she continues to fulfill her lifelong passion by working to improve the patient experience. “I work to provide the same high-quality service to others that I would expect for myself,” she says. “I understand the importance of collaboration, embracing diversity, building trusting relationships, being open and respectful towards others’ unique perspectives. There are always opportunities to make improvements, and I strive to have appropriate processes in place to help make those changes.” Reflecting on her experience, Le-Tondra encourages other women entering their careers to take time to develop their goals. “Dedicate time to set S.M.A.R.T (Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Realistic, Timed) can be extremely beneficial to accomplishing goals effectively, and seek out a mentor who can support you along the way,” she says. “There will be challenges, but it’s important to learn and adapt so you can grow professionally.”
