A huge thanks to the Long Beach Cancer League, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds for cancer awareness, research, and psychosocial services. They recently presented checks to our Todd Cancer Institute at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center and our Jonathan Jaques Children’s Cancer Institute at Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital. Darrell Garmon is a clinical research coordinator at MemorialCare and prior to that, was a phlebotomist with MemorialCare. But his journey didn’t start there. Darrell grew up around the culture at MemorialCare. His mother worked at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center and was very involved in hospital events. As a child, he attended health fairs, collected items for our toy drives, and even volunteered to participate in the Belmont Parade and Champions Run for Life “Torch Run” when he was in high school. “Those experiences made me appreciate how much we can do to support our local community,” said Darrell. “It is a big reason I’m so happy to be part of an organization that gives back.” A career at MemorialCare isn’t just a job. Recently, Dr. Nissi Suppogu, the medical director of the Women’s Heart Center at our MemorialCare Heart & Vascular Institute at Long Beach Medical Center, was a featured speaker at the “Advances and Essentials in Cardiovascular Disease 2025 Conference”. ? Dr. Suppogu specifically spoke about “The Role of Imaging in Women’s Heart Disease.” She discussed advancements in the field of cardiology and explained why we are lagging due to limited recognition and understanding of women’s hearts. She also spoke about coronary artery disease and microvascular disease and the role of invasive and noninvasive cardiac imaging in microvascular disease.
