Working in a newsroom right out of college, I heard one phrase during breaking news that sticks with me to this day, "Would you rather be first, or would you rather be right?" I think that's a philosophy brand managers should adopt and here's why. In the world of social media, it's easy to dehumanize others. We saw an ugly example of this over the weekend as celebrities and brands found themselves on a digital apology tour after the Princess of Wales disclosed her cancer diagnosis to the world. Before you hit send on that "funny" post, question whether there's more to the story. Would you rather be first, or would you rather be right?
