If the Hospitality industry is about people serving people, then the first people employers should serve is their employees-sounds simple enough right? I recently had a conversation with a candidate who shared an interview experience that highlights a critical issue in our industry. The interviewer required managers to work every other weekend without offering any “comp” time off during the week. The candidate's response? "Thank you, I am not interested."?I applauded the candidate's ability to place value on their time. If you do not place value on your time, nobody else will! This interaction underscores a vital point: some organizations still think of employees as a means to an end. There are many talented individuals looking for work, and with recent news from Marriott, there will be even more. Those who care about their teams and place value on them will win the fight for talent.
