It's interesting to read about the new study by Georgios Kapousizis at the University of Twente, titled “Smart Connected Bicycles: User Acceptance and Experience, Willingness to Pay and Road Safety Implications.” ??Data from five European countries and field experiment in Gemeente Enschede were collected and analysed to examine the expected and experienced aspects regarding the influence of smart bicycle technologies on users’ preferences and riding behaviour changes. The findings offer valuable insights and practical recommendations for policymakers, governments, and bicycle manufacturers, as well as significant theoretical contributions. ?? ?? MegaBITS partners attended the NAPCORE Mobility Data Days in Turin last Week! ?? NAPCORE, National Access Point Coordination Organisation for Europe, is the organisation coordinating and harmonising more than 30 mobility data platforms across Europe and is a key player in cycling data standardization. ?? The event was attended by a full and energetic audience who participated in putting forward use cases and data types needed for future standards in cycling infrastructure, real-time data and parking. ?? Today the #MegaBITS_EU project was well represented at the #NAPCORE Mobility Data Days 2024 in Turin (IT). In the session on 'Exploring use cases for cycling data standardisation' MegaBITS partners Cycling Industries Europe (Samuel Pierce) Provincie Overijssel and imec (Casper Van Gheluwe) participated in the session, as well as MegaBITS Advisory Group Members Tu-Tho Thai, J?rgen Bundgaard Wanscher and Mirelle Peters. The session was organised by the cycling ambassadors of the NAPCORE project, Cristina Buraga and Mirelle Peters. After initial presentations on three data categories (bicycle counting, bicycle parking and real-time data) the 35 participants in the session were activated to comment on the initial findings and come up with new use cases and suggestions for the cycling data roadmap for the NAPCORE X proposal.

We are excited to read about all the ways in which cycling data can make routes safer for cyclists, thanks to technologies that highlight potential dangers in path, habits or infrastructure, in tune with MegaBITS goals. ?? In addition to this, connected cycling is recognized as a help for Europe to become the first region in the world that creates a truly smart and sustainable transport industry. ?? What an example of smart cycling implementations and benefits! ?? We are inspired to see plenty of the ITS features implemented in Christiania Bikes through their collaboration with Comodule. ?? From GPS tracking, to movement alarms and alerts, the integrations are an example of how “Connectivity is the next technological leap for the industry, making bikes smarter, more secure, and future-proof” as Comodule’s CEO Teet Praks states. ??
