Credit Unions are missing a golden opportunity to take advantage of rebates & save their members money with home improvement loans. In addition to the thousands of dollars on energy bills members can save with efficient upgrades, most states offer rebates or other incentives that can greatly reduce the upgrade costs for homeowners. For example, Wisconsin residents may be eligible for a rebate up to $8,000 off a new heat pump, and some residents in New York may be eligible for $3,000 rebates, in addition to a $2,000 federal tax deduction. As a result, members are missing out. Many are unaware that these incentives exist and even more are unaware of their prospective savings. CUs need to connect members who stand to save the most money with energy upgrades and directly target them with loan offerings. Moreover, these are attractive loans for lenders with reduced variable expenses, lower default risk, and greater appraisal value of the home. In 2025 CUs can produce more loan volume and drive savings for their members by providing more home energy efficient improvement loans. https://lnkd.in/dDXH_S74

September was a big month for home energy rebates, with three additional states launching new programs. Rebates can help homeowners reduce the cost of home improvements that increase comfort at home and reduce their bills. These new programs, along with the many already operating across the US, are a great catalyst for home efficiency upgrades. https://lnkd.in/eCq5NfaN
