Meet Boston

Did you know that the area now known as Boston Common is part of the traditional homelands of the Massachusett Tribe? Following European settlement, Boston was a hub for Native peoples coming for commercial, political, and transportation purposes, including members of the Massachusett, Wampanoag, and Nipmuc tribes as well as others from even further away. Today people all over the state celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day, a commemoration of Native American history and culture, with ways to celebrate all over the Greater Boston region.
