The WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) is headed back to Portland, with Oregon’s biggest city getting an expansion team that will begin play starting in 2026 led by the brother-sister duo of?Alex Bhathal?and?Lisa Bhathal Merage,?who paid $125 million for the franchise. The new team will play its home games at the Moda Center in downtown Portland.

The Frisco City Council has approved a $182 million public-private partnership with FC Dallas to renovate the nearly 20-year-old stadium Toyota Stadium, Major League Soccer’s third oldest soccer-specific venue and home of FC Dallas. Renovations will include three new clubs, renovated north, east and west entrances and a roof structure that will help provide shade for guests throughout the venue during the summer months.

GFNY Global Endurance Sports Series has added an event in The Bahamas to the 2024 schedule. The November 3 long distance cycling event is 60.8 miles long with 1,392 feet of climbing. “The Bahamas are an aspirational destination,” said GFNY President Lidia Fluhme. “A GFNY is the race of your dreams. But GFNY are endurance sports experiences not just for the athletes but also for accompanying family and friends. What could fit that better than The Bahamas?”

The Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers are extending an operating agreement with the Broward County Commission for five more years, ensuring that the team remains in the market through 2033 and likely well beyond. The Panthers operate multiple facilities across Broward County, including Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Panthers IceDen in Coral Springs and the recently opened FTL War Memorial in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

The Canadian Hockey League and USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program will look to capitalize on the sport’s cross-border rivalry by having its top draft-eligible prospects face off in an annual two-game series starting in November. The CHL USA Prospects Challenge will see the top first-year NHL Draft-eligible prospects from the Western Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League and Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League face the?USA Hockey?National Under-18 Team.

Frontwave Arena in Sports San Diego opened officially on September 16 with its first event, the Gold Over America Tour starring Simone Biles. Frontwave Arena will serve as home for the 16-time champion San Diego Sockers of the Major Arena Soccer League and the newly announced NBA G League San Diego Clippers.
