MeeFog System Still Going Strong After Three Decades The Installation: The MeeFog system was positioned upstream of the inlet air filters and chiller coil to act as a pre-cooler. The fog system consists of 240 nozzles installed in three stages. The first cooling stage achieves 7°F of cooling, two stages deliver 12°F, and all three provide 15°F. Operating pressure is 2,000 psi. Water is converted into microfine droplets by Mee Industries’ patented impaction pin nozzle. These nozzles are designed to prevent the formation of large droplets and to ensure that droplet sizes are maintained below 20 microns. The fogging arrays were placed outside of the filter house to eliminate the downtime required to install the system. As it took time for the chillers to come online, high-pressure inlet fogging was used initially to achieve maximum power output. Fog alone is used when the ambient temperature is below 70°F, while the steam absorption chiller is brought online at temperatures above 70°F, with both systems operating together in such cases. MeeFog System Boosts Air Compressor Output at Fertilizer Plant The Challenge: During California’s intense summer months, Simplot’s Helm fertilizer plant faced significant drops in production at the very time when demand was at its peak. The facility needed a solution that would boost output while lowering energy consumption as part of ongoing sustainability efforts. The Solution: Implementation of the MeeFog system, which reduced inlet air temperatures by up to 30°F. This adaptation was critical in boosting the efficiency and output of the air compressor used in ammonia production, which is vital during high-demand periods. Enhancing Energy Efficiency and Preservation at Valparaiso University Library ~ Founded in 1859, Valparaiso University is on a path to grow to 7,000 - 8,000 students. With this growth in mind, the decision to build a new library facility to serve the expanding student base was made. KJWW Engineering (now IMEG Corp.) was selected as the engineering designer. They immediately started looking for ways to design an energy efficient facility that would serve the university’s needs for years to come. Challenge: The new library facility needed an efficient way to control temperature and humidity to preserve extensive book collections and reference materials. Solution: KJWW Engineering collaborated with MeeFog to design a high-pressure humidification system. The library’s environmental control system includes two custom air handlers rated at 55,000 CFM, operating on VAV economizer cycles. A single high-pressure MeeFog pump supplies 1000 psi water to nozzle headers via staging solenoids. MeeFog in the Bird House at Smithsonian National Zoo ~ Bird migration is one of the most spectacular events in the natural world. In 2021 the Smithsonian National Zoo’s historic 1928 Bird House was transformed into a first-of-its-kind attraction that immerses visitors in the annual journeys of western hemisphere birds. The Bird house is an aviary that allows visitors to view the birds. They have installed a MeeFog system to provide humidity for the indoor gardens, and to create an ecosystem that is similar to the bird’s natural habitats. With almost 100 species of birds, the Bird House and the surrounding bird plateau is the first zoo exhibition of this size that focuses on the cyclical journeys of migratory songbirds, waterfowl and shorebirds integral to North, Central and South American ecosystems. ⠀

Decrease Steam Turbine Backpressure With MeeFog Challenge: A combined cycle power plant wanted to increase power output without going out of compliance on its stringent environmental permit. Solution: Mee Industries developed a spray system that produces maximum cooling without wasting water. The system was installed to cool the steam condenser, thereby reducing backpressure on the steam turbine and increasing output power. The system was designed to produce fog droplets that are small enough to not fall out of the air stream before reaching the condenser fins. It uses demin water to avoid fouling of the fins and tubes from calcium carbonate. MeeFog Effects Create Interactive Experience at Louisiana Children's Museum ~ Two MeeFog high pressure pumps, and a MeeFog reverse osmosis water treatment system were installed at the museum to generate fog special effects for an interactive fog display installation. The high pressure pumps direct pure water to an array of 452 nozzles, strategically placed around the bridge to create ever-changing fog drifts. At the top of each hour, the fog display can be viewed from the foot bridge. The control system turns the fog on and off according to the display schedule. It begins with a low pressure setting, building momentum as the fog goes on.
