#ICYMI: Sensor technologies have transformed clinical studies by facilitating remote monitoring and reducing the need for frequent hospital visits. This shift was particularly beneficial during the COVID-19 pandemic when minimizing physical contact was crucial. Sensor technologies are reshaping the #medtech landscape, especially within clinical trials. Innovations in wearable and implantable sensors are driving advancements in patient monitoring, data collection, and personalized care. These cutting-edge tools provide continuous, real-time insights, enhancing both patient outcomes and healthcare delivery. Since its inception, 717 companies have been accepted into the MedTech Innovator program, collectively raising $8.7 billion in follow-on funding after graduation. “In this industry, capital is not easy to secure; that’s a significant figure,” CEO Paul Grand noted at the recent The MedTech Conference by AdvaMed, highlighting impressive metrics demonstrating the accelerator program’s success. Grand takes the most pride in the fact that 96% of program alumni remain operational or have been acquired. “To date, there have been 48 exits or acquisitions, and, crucially, our graduates have brought 351 products to FDA approval” (see Figure 1). Over the past year alone, the program celebrated a major milestone with Edwards Lifesciences acquiring Endotronix, an MTI alum, while graduates raised $1.6 billion across 156 funding rounds—a notable achievement, given the challenging funding environment. “Many are struggling right now, but our companies are standing out,” Grand observed. The accelerator’s reputation continues to grow, and its acceptance rate is now just 5%, comparable to Harvard University. Out of an estimated 25,000 companies in the field, nearly half (12,000) have applied to MTI over the past decade, underscoring its prestige. Over the 10 years since Paul Grand created the medtech industry’s largest accelerator, it has helped start-ups launch many innovative #medicalproducts.
