To celebrate this season of giving, nearly 100 of our associates joined Project Giveback at the D.C. Armory this past Saturday to help package 5,000 boxes of food for distribution to those in need this #Thanksgiving. Special thanks to our Equity, Inclusion & Diversity Council for coordinating this special volunteer opportunity and allowing us to extend our care for the community beyond the walls of the hospital! #DeliverThanksgiving

When Washington, D.C. resident Curtis Mapp, a 57-year smoker with COPD, saw an online ad for lung cancer screening at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, he took action. That choice led to a life-saving discovery: a nodule in his lung, later confirmed as early-stage adenocarcinoma. Thanks to a quick referral and surgery, Curtis is now cancer-free and focused on better health with the support of a smoking cessation program. Curtis’s message to others is clear: “If you’ve ever smoked, get help to quit and get your lungs checked. It could save your life.” Visit MedStarHealth.org/LungHRA to take our free lung cancer risk quiz to see if you may be eligible for a lung cancer screening. #LungCancerAwareness #EarlyDetection #ScreeningSavesLives

The holiday season is upon us, and there is so much to be thankful for! We recognize our associates for the work they do every day to provide the highest quality and safest care to our patients and celebrate several notable recognitions we have received recently, including U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings, the Lown Institute, and the Leapfrog Group. To celebrate our accomplishments, and as a sign of our gratitude, our associates partook in sweet treats including cakes, cookies, hot chocolate, and cider in our cafeteria. We are thankful for our associates’ ONE TEAM dedication and service to patients, visitors, and each other. Share who you are thankful for this holiday season in the comments!
