MedRhythms today announced that CMS established a new HCPCS code to describe InTandem: E3200 (gait modulation system, rhythmic auditory stimulation, including restricted therapy software, all components and accessories, prescription only). CMS also determined that InTandem qualified under Medicare’s durable medical equipment (DME) benefit category based on InTandem’s durability and indication for home use. “Stroke can significantly impact a person’s ability to walk, putting them at greater risk for falls, other health conditions and poorer quality of life,” said Paolo Bonato, PhD, director of the Motion Analysis Lab at Spaulding Rehabilitation. “Our trial shows that an intervention applying algorithmically-controlled music as a rhythmic stimulus improves walking and ambulation by inciting and harnessing the unconscious synchronization of the auditory and motor systems.” Read the study published in Nature Communications to learn more: https://buff.ly/49uy9ir
