Medina County Park District volunteers and staff recently assisted the natural resources department in the release of over 1,400 native fish reared in propagation ponds at Park District Headquarters.?Blackchin Shiners, Blacknose Shiners, Lake Chubsuckers, and Iowa Darters have long been uncommon to extirpated in Ohio, and this propagation program aided by The Ohio State University aims to replenish the populations of these rare and endangered fish. A big thanks goes out to all those who helped to reintroduce these native fish back into the waters of Medina County!

Last week, members of the Shotwell Family joined Medina County Park District staff, MCPD Board Chair Dennis Neate, CIC, CRM, and the design-build team of Davey Resource Group, Inc. and MARKS CONSTRUCTION INC for an on-site kickoff meeting to discuss the Shotwell Gardens at Lake Medina. Thanks to the family's generous donation of 25 acres at the corner of Foote and Weymouth roads in Medina Township, the park district is able to build a third entrance to Lake Medina. But, the location will be so much more than that. The Shotwell Gardens will include a small amphitheater and pond, accessible walking trails, restrooms, seating, and gardens with native plants that showcase different colors, textures, and seasonal interest. Design will be underway soon, and construction is planned for 2025, with October the target for the public opening of Phase 1. Becky Shotwell Nathan Eppink Kenneth P. Medina County Park District hosted a great regional networking event for parks and recreation professionals last week. Chippewa Lake, Ohio’s largest inland glacial lake, and the former amusement park on its eastern shores were the stars of the show. Attendees from all over Northeast Ohio heard about the district’s efforts to preserve land, improve water quality, restore the amusement park property, and plan for public access. Medina County Park District Clerk/Receptionist Jaymi put together a fun, school-lunch-themed snack station for the staff! As always, she thought of every detail, even providing brown paper bags for everyone to collect their delicious treats. It's the little things that make MCPD such a special place to work!
