It's National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week! Talking to students about substance abuse can be challenging—but what if they could step inside a giant brain and SEE the effects for themselves? That’s exactly what our Mega Substance Abuse Brain does. This walk-through inflatable brain is an unforgettable, interactive journey that visually demonstrates: ?? How drugs and alcohol disrupt brain function ?? Which areas of the brain control decision-making, memory, and emotions ? Why teen brains are especially vulnerable to addiction ?? How substance abuse can have long-term impacts on learning and mental health Paired with an expert speaker and educational program, this experience doesn’t just tell students about the risks—it immerses them in the science behind brain health and addiction. Why this matters: ?? 90% of people with a substance use disorder started using before age 18 (Source: National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse) ?? The human brain doesn’t fully develop until about age 25, making young people more prone to risk-taking and addiction ?? Hands-on, visual learning leads to better retention and deeper engagement compared to traditional lectures Substance abuse prevention starts with education—and the right tools make all the difference. Let’s bring this powerful learning experience to more schools and communities. Want to host the Mega Brain at your next education or prevention event? Thank you Kim Gardner RN, BSN for bringing the #megalungs #healtheducation and #lungcancerscreening to drive health equity and early detection in your city!
??Gratitude & Impact:Fight for Air Climb 2025?? A huge thank you to Terri Bailey and the American Lung Association for allowing Genentech to be part of this year’s Fight for Air Climb in Oklahoma City. The Oklahoma Texoma Team is grateful for the opportunity to participate in this impactful event, which raises critical funds for lung disease research, patient services, and advocacy efforts. It was truly inspiring to see ~500 participants come together at Leadership Square, climbing 68 floors and 1,445 stairs in solidarity with those battling lung disease. One of the event highlights was the Mega Lungs exhibit, an interactive educational tool that vividly illustrates the effects of lung diseases such as lung cancer, COPD, smoking, vaping, and pulmonary fibrosis. We were honored to provide this resource, helping to spread awareness and promote lung health. ?? Heartfelt thanks to: Rebecca Eggleston, Yvette Troupe, MSW, Kim Gardner RN, BSN, Lindsey Baker Your dedication is driving health equity, expanding access to life-saving screenings, and advancing research to combat lung disease. The Fight for Air Climb is more than just a challenge—it’s a testament to resilience, advocacy, and hope. Let’s continue working together to expand early detection, improve access to care, and support those affected by lung disease. #FightForAir #LungHealth #Genentech #CommunityImpact #Advocacy #Healthcare #AmericanLungAssociation

It’s Brain Awareness Week! ?? Your brain is your body’s command center—controlling everything from thoughts and emotions to movement and memory. But how much do we really know about it? ?? Brain Facts That Might Surprise You: ?? Your brain contains about 86 billion neurons—each forming thousands of connections! ?? It generates roughly 12-25 watts of electricity—enough to power a small light bulb. ?? The human brain shrinks with age, losing about 5% of its volume per decade after age 40. ?? 1 in 3 people will experience a brain-related disorder in their lifetime, including stroke, Alzheimer’s, or traumatic brain injury (TBI). That’s why brain health education is crucial—and why we’re passionate about making learning interactive, engaging, and fun. Our giant, inflatable Mega Brain lets visitors walk through the brain’s structures, and gain a deeper understanding of brain health. This Brain Awareness Week, let’s spark curiosity, share knowledge, and encourage brain-healthy habits like regular exercise, lifelong learning, and proper nutrition. The facts: ? 1 in 24 people will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer in their lifetime. ? When caught early, the 5-year survival rate is 90% – but only 4 out of 10 cases are detected at this stage. ?
